Blue Bombers vs. Stampeders Prediction: CFL Week 8 Point Spread, Odds
The Blue Bombers remained the CFL’s lone undefeated team this season by tallying a 24-10 win in Edmonton last week. The Stampeders enjoyed a bye last week, and return to action seeking vengeance after suffering their first loss of the season two weeks ago, a 26-19 defeat in Winnipeg.
Despite sporting an unblemished record, and knocking off Calgary two weeks ago, the Blue Bombers have attracted the support of just 31 per cent of sports bettors in Saturday’s contest, which is pegged as a betting pick ’em. The total is listed at 46.5, with 88 per cent of sports bettors taking the UNDER.
CFL Odds and Betting
Saturday night’s matchup at McMahon Stadium marks the second of three regular season meetings between these clubs. With their home victory over the Stamps in Week 6, the Bombers improved to 7-4-0 over their past 11 head-to-head clashes. However, they have struggled in Calgary, where they have won in just three of 15 visits since 2009.
Low scoring has been commonplace in recent dates involving these teams. The total has topped 40 just once over that stretch, fuelling a 3-0-0 run for the UNDER in totals betting. Low scoring has also generated mixed results against the spread. Despite their home dominance versus Winnipeg, the Stampeders have compiled a middling 4-4-0 record against the spread over the Bombers’ past eight visits.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Blue Bombers seized an early lead and never looked back in last weekend’s 24-10 win in Edmonton. With that win, the Winnipeg defence has limited opponents to just 16.3 points per game, tops in the CFL. The Bombers attack also started quick, scoring on their first three possessions of the game, but subsequently sputtered before embarking on a lengthy clock-munching drive in the fourth quarter that sealed the win.
Indeed, the Bombers continue to sport somewhat ordinary offensive numbers. In addition to ranking a distant eighth in the CFL in total yards per game, Winnipeg ranks just fifth in points per game. But with the defence holding opponents to fewer than 20 points in five of their seven outings, they have still managed to go 5-2-0 against the spread. Quarterback Zach Collaros mustered just 188 passing yards last week. Receiver Dalton Schoen accounted for 146 of those yards, raising questions about the Bombers’ ability to provide their pivot with multiple downfield options.
Calgary Stampeders
Well rested following last week’s bye, the Stampeders look to rebound from their shakiest offensive performance of the season in their Week 6 loss to Winnipeg. Calgary averaged an impressive 35.5 points per game during a season-opening 4-0-0 run, but was effectively shut down by the Bombers defence, which limited quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell to just 12 completed passes for 187 yards, both season lows, to go along with one score and one pick.
The Stamps also struggled with discipline versus Winnipeg, particularly on special teams, which were tagged for 45 yards in penalties, including a third-quarter contacting the kicker penalty that handed Winnipeg a first down they would convert into a game-winning touchdown. While the Blue Bombers are not the same offensive threat they were in 2021, the Stampeders must find a way to kick start their offence if they are to hand Winnipeg their first loss.
