Blue Bombers vs. Stampeders Prediction: CFL Week 5 Point Spread, Odds

Winnipeg is a 3.5-point road favourite on the CFL odds with a total of 50.5.

CFL Odds and Betting

Thursday’s game between the Blue Bombers and Stampeders is a little more important than usual as the winner will take home the new Stampede Bowl Trophy as the Stampeders will play at home during the week of the Calgary Stampede for the first time ever. In addition, team presidents Jay McNeil and Wade Miller made a friendly wager to where the losing team will donate $25,000 to Purolator Tackle Hunger in the winning team’s market. The game also will feature a performance from Poison frontman Bret Michaels at halftime.

Winnipeg had won six straight in the series before a 22-19 road loss in the first meeting last year. Bombers QB Zach Collaros left at halftime following a big hit to the chest and did not return. But Winnipeg rallied from an 18-9 fourth-quarter deficit to tie the game on a Chris Streveler-to-Drew Wolitarsky TD with 57 seconds left to send the game to overtime. But the Blue Bombers’ first possession in OT, Streveler was picked off. That would eventually lead to a 52-yard game-winning field goal by Rene Paredes. Winnipeg did win the 2024 rematch at home, 41-37.

Calgary is 19-6 SU in its past 25 home games in the series. Winnipeg is 2-4 ATS in the past six meetings overall.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

We told you last week that Winnipeg hadn’t started 3-0 since 2022 but projected a 30-22 home win over Edmonton last Thursday to get there. The Blue Bombers prevailed 36-23 to cover the 9.5-point spread – the game was tied 23-all entering the fourth.

QB Zach Collaros was terrific in completing 25-of-30 for 334 yards with three touchdowns against no interceptions. Collaros also rushed for the clinching touchdown with 5:42 left. He improved to 16-6 in his CFL career against the Elks, including 12 straight wins — the last 11 with the Bombers. Collaros also moved past Ken Ploen (16,470) into fourth spot on the franchise’s all-time passing yardage list at 16,511.

Collaros hit Nic Demski for a pair of TD scores, one for eight yards and another for 60. Demski, who was a game-time decision with an injured ankle, extended his reception streak to 74 consecutive games, the longest active run in the CFL, and already has a league-high four TD catches on the year.

Top running back Brady Oliveira sat a second straight game with a shoulder injury suffered in the opener but is tracking for a return. Matthew Peterson led all Blue Bombers rushers with 65 yards on 12 carries vs. Edmonton, with 57 of that total coming in the fourth.

Winnipeg is 4-1 ATS in its past five games.

Calgary Stampeders

Calgary lost its first game of the season in Week 3, 20-12 at home to Ottawa in wet and windy conditions at McMahon Stadium, and then was off in Week 4. Stamps QB Vernon Adams was fairly quiet vs. the Redblacks, completing 17 of 32 for just 218 yards with a pick and rushing for 21 yards.

Tailback Dedrik Mills had 15 carries for 96 yards and is fourth in the league with 218 yards rushing. But Adams hasn’t gotten going yet with three INTs and zero passing scores on the year.

During the off week, the team signed veteran linebacker Adam Bighill to their practice roster but he might not be ready to debut yet off injury. Bighill is a three-time winner of the CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player award. The 36-year-old appeared in 10 games with the Blue Bombers a season ago, where he collected 48 tackles and one sack.

The Calgary defence allowed 239 rushing yards in the loss to Ottawa. Reggie Begelton, a three-time 1,000-yard receiver, remains on the six-game injured list. He broke his leg in Week 2. Backup tailback Jeshurn Antwi and offensive lineman Bryce Bell are in question this week.

Calgary is 2-5 ATS in its past seven at home.
