Blue Bombers vs. Roughriders Prediction: CFL Week 12 Point Spread, Odds
This Praire rivalry is a CFL tradition that started back in 1949 and it continues today, stronger than ever. The Bombers – Riders matchup have been intense and one sided as of late. Adding to the storyline is the suspension of a CFL all-star, which will make it that much more difficult from the Blue and Gold.
CFL Odds and Betting
This will be the 55th time these two teams have met on Labour Day, with the Roughriders holding the edge in the other 54 games with a record of 36-18.
In recent years, the Roughriders have dominated the Bombers in Regina on this weekend, currently on a two-game winning streak and winners of 13 of the last 14 games played at this time. It’s no surprise the Roughriders have opened as 6.5-point favourites at Sports Interaction.
The Bombers last win on Labour Day was back in 2016 as they edged the Riders 28-25.
Last season the two teams split the four games played, but the Bombers got the last laugh with a 23-18 win in the West Semi-final.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
News of the two-game suspension to stud Running back Andrew Harris shocked the province of Manitoba and the league itself. Harris will miss this game and the rematch next week in Winnipeg after he tested positive for a banned substance. Harris has been one of the best at his position the last number of years, and currently leads the CFL in rushing with 908 yards. In his place the combination of John Santiago and Johnny Augustine will work together in the Bombers backfield.
The Bombers enter this game with the Roughriders on a three-game winning streak, including a massive 34-28 win against second place Edmonton in Edmonton last week. Back-up Quarterback, now starter Chris Streveler made his first start of the season in place of the injured Matt Nichols. His numbers were not off the charts as he threw for just 89 yards (7-of-17) but he was also the team’s leading rusher with 95 yards on 14 carries.
This game will be a special one for former Roughrider Willie Jefferson. Jefferson was the Riders top defender and most outstanding player last season and has continued to do that with the Bombers. Last week he was a CFL top performer with four tackles, two forced fumbles and is now tied for second in the league with eight sacks.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
They are the CFL’s hottest team, and they’ll look to gain ground on the first-place Bombers on Sunday afternoon. Entering this match-up the Riders have won five in a row, and currently sit four points out of top spot in the West. The last time the Green Riders dropped a game was early July (July 6) against the Stampeders. Over the winning streak, the team has a point differential of 74.
In his last five games Quarterback Cody Fajardo has been lights out, going 102-of-137 passing for a remarkable 74.5 percent. He has been the team’s MVP.
