Winners of just five games last year, the Lions have stormed out of the gate this season, racking up three straight victories while averaging over 45 points per game. The Blue Bombers have leveraged a sturdy defence during a steady 4-0-0 start that extends their current overall win streak to six games.

Despite being outclassed while falling to defeat in each of their past four dates with Winnipeg, the Lions look to Saturday’s contest as strengthening 3.5-point favourites to win on the CFL odds. Backed by just 45 per cent of sports bettors, the Blue Bombers lag as +141 moneyline underdogs. The total has climbed slightly to 48.5 since opening at 48. The OVER is attracting 93 per cent of the betting action.

CFL Odds and Betting

Saturday night’s matchup at BC Place Stadium marks the first of three regular season meetings between these West Division rivals. The Bombers dominated in two dates with BC last season. The squad waltzed to a 30-9 victory when they visited BC last October. They followed that up with a crushing 45-0 home win three weeks later.

Overall, Winnipeg has claimed victory by an average margin of 23.3 points during a four-game head-to-head win streak. They have limited the Lions to just 14.5 points per game over their past six meetings. The Lions’ feeble offensive efforts have contributed to mixed results in totals betting when they face Winnipeg, with the UNDER paying out in three of their past four tilts, ending an 8-2-0 run for the OVER.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

By far the highest scoring team in the CFL last season, points have come at a premium for the Blue Bombers in 2022. That was particularly true last time out, as Winnipeg narrowly hung on for a 23-22 win in Toronto on Monday night. While the Bombers capitalized on turnovers while jumping out to a 17-3 lead at halftime, they struggled to put away the Argonauts, who came within a missed convert in the dying seconds of knocking off the defending champs.

Overall, this team has averaged fewer than 22 points per game during their 4-0-0 start. That has added to the pressure on quarterback Zach Collaros, who has connected on just one total scoring pass over the past two games. Collaros has also thrown a pick in each of his past three outings. But while Bombers attack has stumbled, the defence has stood tall. The squad converted three turnovers into scores last week, and has surrendered just 13.3 points per game to date. The question is whether they can maintain that stinginess against the suddenly high-powered Lions.

BC Lions

It was another big night for Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke, as the Lions rolled to a 34-31 win over the Ottawa Redblacks last week. Rourke has emerged as one of the big surprises of the CFL campaign. With the rookie’s 359-yard, two-touchdown performance against Ottawa, he now leads the league with nine scoring passes while completing an eye-popping 83.8 per cent of pass attempts.

The Lions’ impressive start has vaulted them to +335 second favourites on the Grey Cup odds, trailing only Winnipeg. However, it is tough to ignore the struggles of the Lions defence against the winless Redblacks, who made things close with a 25-point outburst in the second half. The BC attack also faces a massive challenge to overcome the Bombers’ stout defence after enjoying an east schedule during the first month of the campaign. This will be a true test of how the Lions stack up against an elite CFL squad.
