Blue Bombers vs. Argonauts Prediction: CFL Week 6 Point Spread, Odds

The Blue Bombers wrapped up a split of their home and home series with the BC Lions, losing in Vancouver Friday night. They now start a home and home series with the Toronto Argonauts with game one in Toronto. The Argos split their home and home series with the Eskimos, falling to Edmonton by one point.

Betting Analysis

The Blue Bombers enter this game with the Argos having won three out of the last four games played. They have played two games at BMO Field (Argos moved there at the start of the 2016 season) and are 1-1. Since the beginning of the 2014 season, these two teams have played eight games, both winning four games. Of note, the Argos are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games played in July, while the Bombers are 7-2 ATS in their last nine Saturday games.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Just when you think everyone is rolling in the right direction, it quickly turns a complete 180. Or at least that’s what Blue Bombers fans were thinking when watching last week’s game against the Lions. If you missed it, the Bombers had a commanding 17-0 halftime lead at BC Place, but watched the Lions score 20 unanswered second half points to drop to 2-3 on the season. Quarterback Matt Nichols was shaky at best in that second half, throwing three interceptions; last year during the entire season, the pivot threw just eight interceptions.

Despite the loss, Running back Andrew Harris had another great game, tearing up the field with 139 yards along the ground. He continues to lead the CFL in that category with 449 yards rushing in five games, and continues to be the main attraction of the Blue Bombers offence.

Toronto Argonauts

This will be quarterback James Franklin’s third start as a member of the Toronto Argonauts after replacing the injured Ricky Ray back on June 23 (vs. Stampeders). He is 1-1 as a starter.  His favourite target had a break-through game last week. Through the first three games of the regular season Argos receiver SJ Green had just 105 yards of receiving entering the game vs. Eskimos. But against the Eskimos he broke out hauling in ten catches for 110 yards. He’ll continue to be a main target for Franklin in this game. Also, James Wilder Jr. will need a bounce back game after running for just 26 yards last week.

Of note, Defensive lineman Dylan Wynn was suspended by the CFL for one game for his hit on Eskimos running back C.J. Gable. He will miss this game against the Blue Bombers. The Argos front office made some noise on the transaction wire this week, signing former NFL pro-bowler Dexter McCluster to a contract. No word on whether or not he’ll make his CFL debut this Friday night.
