The latest edition of the Labour Day rivalry between the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats looks like it won’t be all that close. But stranger things have happened when these two teams meet, as they will Monday afternoon at Tim Hortons Field. The Argonauts come into this one in complete disarray, losers of two straight and eight of nine to open the season. The Tiger-Cats have no such concerns, coming into the week with a comfy lead atop the East.

CFL Labour Day Classic Odds and Betting

So remember what we said above about how Toronto might make this one interesting? Recent history doesn’t exactly bear that out; the Argonauts have gone just 5-16 ATS in their previous 21 games against the Tiger-Cats, and have a lone cover in their past seven trips to Hamilton. The Ti-Cats, on the other hand, have covered four of their five home games this season and are a sizzling 4-1 ATS in their past five following a failed cover in their previous contest.

Monday’s total comes in at 51.5 – and more than 70 percent of Sports Interaction participants are leaning toward the Under, due in no small part to Toronto having scored just 16.8 points per game through its first nine outings. Yet, while the Argonauts have done their part to fuel this trend – going 1-4 O/U in their last nine road games – Hamilton is at the other end of the spectrum, having converted the over in nine of its past 12 meetings with divisional foes.

Toronto Argonauts

This will mark the first time the Argonauts have faced the Tiger-Cats since getting destroyed 64-14 in their season opener – and things haven’t been much better since, though Toronto easily could have a couple more wins by now had things bounced their way. But it’s easy to forget that the Argos and Ti-Cats were actually tied 3-3 after the first quarter in that one – and if Toronto gets the ball first, it might be a great play at +160 to score first.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Beware the trap game. That’s the message from the Hamilton coaching staff – and it’s a good one, considering how the Tiger-Cats have fared against lesser competition. Hamilton has gone 1-2 SU and 1-2 ATS in three games as a double-digit fave over the past two seasons; it crushed Montreal 41-10 at home at -14 in Week 3 but dropped a 36-29 decision to those same Alouettes as a 13-point favourite the following week.
