Argonauts vs. Tiger-Cats Prediction: CFL Week 7 Point Spread, Odds
Coming off back-to-back victories, the Tiger-Cats will have their hands full on Friday night when they host the 4-0 Argonauts in Hamilton.
Toronto is an 8.0-point favourite to win on the CFL odds, while the game total sits at 49.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
The Argos have taken four of the last five meetings between these teams, including a 32-14 Week 2 home victory this season. In was Toronto’s season-opener, while the loss dropped Hamilton to 0-2. Chad Kelly was the hero for the Argonauts as the quarterback finished with 238 passing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Hamilton QB Bo Levi Mitchell was chased from the game after throwing two interceptions and no touchdown passes.
Toronto’s Grey Cup defence is off to a perfect 2-0 start both at home and on the road. They’ve also been good to bettors, covering in all four games this season. The Argos have hit the Over in three straight games.
The Ti-Cats sit tied with both Montreal and Ottawa at 2-3 straight up on the year, including an even 1-1 at home. They’re 2-3 ATS overall, including 1-1 ATS at home. The Over has hit in eight of Hamilton’s last 12 home games against the Argos.
Toronto Argonauts
Kelly’s passing game finally broke through last week in Toronto’s 35-27 win in Montreal. He connected on three passing touchdowns and threw for 351 total yards. Kelly also added his fourth rushing touchdown of the season and shares the league-lead with teammate A.J. Ouellette. The Argos are averaging a CFL-high 38.8 points per game on offence.
As good as the offence has been, defence will likely be key in this game for Toronto. The Argos have been torched on the defensive side of the ball over the last three games, allowing an average of 27.3 ppg. This week is a great opportunity to improve those poor defensive numbers as Hamilton’s injury issues at quarterback will force them to turn to third-string rookie Taylor Powell.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats
The Ti-Cats earned their second straight victory with a 37-29 win in Edmonton last week, but it came at a cost. Quarterback Matthew Shiltz went down with a leg injury and now sits on the six-game injured list. With Mitchell still not ready to return from the adductor injury he suffered in Week 2, it’s the rookie Powell who will lead Hamilton this week in his first career CFL start. Powell completed two of four pass attempts in relief of Shiltz last week, finishing with 47 passing yards and a touchdown.
The addition of an unproven rookie at quarterback could be potentially disastrous for the Tiger-Cats as the offence was already struggling heavily with veterans Shiltz and Mitchell leading the way. Hamilton has produced fewer than 21 points in three of five games this season and three of their losses came by large double-digit margins. The Ti-Cats are averaging just 23.0 ppg overall, which ranks fifth in the CFL.
