The Roughriders will try to snap a six-game losing streak, and possibly clinch the final playoff spot in the CFL West, when they host the Argos on Saturday CFL Week 20 action.

The Roughriders saw their lead over Calgary in the race for third place in the CFL West cut to two points with last weekend’s 26-19 road loss to the Stampeders, but can still lock up a playoff berth with a win over Toronto, combined with a Stampeders’ loss in their Friday night road date with the BC Lions. The Argonauts enter their penultimate game of the regular season having already clinched the top of the CFL East standings, but have seen their two defeats this season come over the course of their past four road contests.

Despite having little to play for, the Argos arrive in Saskatchewan perched as 9.5-point favourites on the CFL Week 20 odds. The Riders trail as distant +360 underdogs in their bid to earn their first win since Labour Day Weekend, and the total is pegged at 50.5.

CFL Odds and Betting

Saturday afternoon’s matchup at Mosaic Stadium marks the second meeting of the season between these teams, and the final date on the Roughriders’ regular season schedule. The Argonauts rolled to a decisive 31-13 win when they hosted the Roughriders back on July 29, and have now scored at least 30 points per game while compiling a three-game straight up and against the spread win streak in head-to-head action. That high scoring has helped extend a steady 5-2 run for the OVER in totals betting.

Toronto Argonauts

The Argonauts have managed to maintain impressive momentum despite having claimed the top of the CFL East weeks ago. After spotting Ottawa a 24-20 halftime lead, the Argonauts shifted into high gear after recess on their way to a 40-27 victory. The Argos have now scored 37.5 points per game during their 2-0 surge, but have seen their production dip on the road, where they have averaged just 23 points per game while winning just two of their past four. However, the stretch run for Toronto has really been about keeping the team sharp while avoiding costly injuries. That has meant more playing time for quarterback David Dukes, who has seen action in each of the past three games including a start in the team’s 31-21 loss in Winnipeg three weeks ago, in which he went a respectable 17-for-24 for 231 yards and one touchdown. Rusher Daniel Adeboboye has also enjoyed a bigger assignment, rushing for 90 total yards over the past two games.

Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Riders appeared poised to lock up a playoff berth after storming to an early 13-0 lead in last weekend’s visit to Calgary. However, the squad let the lead steadily slip away in their eventual 26-19 loss. The Saskatchewan offence has increasingly struggled over the team’s lengthening swoon, scoring just 16 points per game over their past two outings, with quarterback Jake Dolegala connecting on just one scoring pass over the past three games. Indeed, the Roughriders have particularly struggled after halftime, scoring just 25 total points over the past two games, including 15 garbage-time points in a 33-26 loss to BC in Week 17. Overall, Dolegala has thrown for just seven touchdowns in nine appearances this season, wile tossing for seven picks and turning over the ball on fumbles six times.

All the pressure is on the Riders against an elite Argos squad that has resisted the temptation to look past their recent meaningless regular season contests.
