Toronto defeated Ottawa 35-16 back in Week 10 with the Argos scoring twice on defence but the yards ending up 406-253 in Ottawa’s favour.

Last week the Argos held on for a 31-29 overtime win versus BC, while Ottawa hosted Calgary and lost their fifth-straight game by a score of 26-13. Kickoff at TD Place — also Ottawa’s final home game — goes at 4 p.m. EST.

CFL Odds and Betting

Something’s got to give; each offence is in the bottom third in the CFL when it comes to yards per play (Toronto is seventh with 5.9, Ottawa ninth with exactly five). But then each defence ranks as the bottom in yards per play against (Toronto eighth at 6.5 and Ottawa last with 6.6). Back in Week 10 Ottawa averaged 7.12 yards per play on the Argos’ defence and Toronto averaged 5.38 on the Redblacks’ defence.

Toronto’s won eight of their last 10 meetings against the Redblacks, covering in seven of those contests. It’s also been night and day when it comes to home and away games for the Argos in 2021. They’re a perfect 5-0 at BMO Field, but are 2-4 on the road.

Toronto’s a 10.5-point road favourite with the over-under at 45.5 on the CFL odds.

Toronto Argonauts

McLeod Bethel-Thompson only threw for 155 yards last week in his first outing as Toronto’s guy under centre moving forward but the talent around him lifted Toronto to victory. In particular, the Argos rushed for 122 yards between John White and D.J. Foster. That’s trouble for an Ottawa rush defence giving up over 115 yards a contest.

They also saved Ryan Dinwiddie from another baffling coaching decision when he called for victory formation before the game was wrapped up. Dinwiddie’s made a few key mistakes this season, and on defence Chris Jones hasn’t made Toronto better in the slightest bit. Each have to figure it out.

Ottawa RedBlacks

It’s full on 2022 tryouts in Ottawa. The quarterback situation could see Caleb Evans, Devlin Hodges, or even Tom Flacco under centre. Evans threw for 159 yards on 29 attempts last week but also went without an interception after registering three multi-interception games in his first five starts. This allowed Evans to get all of the playing time under centre last Friday.

On defence, the likes of Ranthony Texada (cornerback), Frankie Griffin (strong-side linebacker), and Tre Hornbuckle (defensive end) all got starts in Week 12 and expect more newcomers to get reps for Ottawa. Canadian defensive back Justin Howell has also taken after at safety after Antonie Pruneau landed on the six-game injured list.
