Argonauts vs. Eskimos Prediction: CFL Week 7 Point Spread, Odds

There’s no escaping reality for the winless Toronto Argonauts. Even though they feel like they should have probably at least one or two wins by now as they visit the Edmonton Eskimos, facts are facts. The facts are that the Argos are in the basement of the CFL standings and are pegged as big underdogs again on Thursday night.

CFL Odds and Betting

Toronto may not have anything in the win column, but the club has covered the spread in two of its last three. The Argos covered in a one-point loss against B.C. in Week 4 and again as 13.5-point underdogs against Calgary last week. Meanwhile, the Eskimos have dropped two of their last three both straight up and against the spread. All three of those games played under their posted totals.

The line for this week’s matchup opened with the Eskimos as 12.5-point favourites, before dropping to -11.5, while the total has dropped from 53 points to 51.5. About 60 percent of bettors are backing the Eskimos to cover.

Toronto Argonauts

You don’t have to tell the Argos that turning the ball over seven times like they did against the Stamps isn’t exactly a recipe for success. Even though there were some bright spots in last weeks loss, like the McLeod Bethel Thompson He completing 32-of-42 passes for 343 yards and two touchdowns, but that gets lost when you throw four picks too. Turnovers led to 22 of Calgary’s 26 points.

“I threw the ball to the wrong team four times,” quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson told reporters. “It’s unacceptable as a quarterback. You can’t win ball games like that, flat out. That’s on my shoulders. I’ve got to play better. I’ve got to be better for this team and that’s a challenge to myself. I’ll be better.”

Edmonton Eskimos

The Eskimos are on a short week as they try to get back on track after a disappointing 20-10 loss at Montreal. The offence is a major concern after it produced a season-low 320 yards as they were upset as 5.5-point favourites on the road and the club got some more bad news on Wednesday when word came out that running back C.J. Gable won’t play Thursday as he was placed on the one-game injured reserve. Gable is second in the CFL in rushing with 448 rushing yards on 87 carries (5.1 yards-per-carry average). Shaq Cooper is expected to fill in as Edmonton’s primary running threat.
