Argonauts vs. Elks Prediction: CFL Week 3 Point Spread, Odds

The Toronto Argonauts found themselves as a home underdog in their home opener last Sunday but the defending champs took care of business. While the Hamilton Tiger-Cats were favoured, the Argos led from wire-to-wire in what proved to be a relatively comfortable 32-14 victory.

This week, the Argos head out on the road to face the winless Edmonton Elks. Edmonton has looked listless so far, including a shutout loss on the road in B.C. last week. Can the Elks get their first win of the year on Sunday or at least cover?

Toronto is a 6.5-point favourite to win on the CFL odds.

CFL Odds and Betting

With last week’s win and cover, the Argos have now gone 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games and have covered five of seven against losing teams. However, they’ve failed to cover in four straight meetings with Edmonton.

As for the Elks, they are just 17-37 ATS in their last 54 at home. They’re also just 1-4 ATS in their last five against teams with a winning record. It is worth noting that these teams tend to play overs as 12 of the last 17 have gone over the number as well as six of the last eight meetings in Edmonton.

Toronto Argonauts

The Argos were supposedly a question mark to start the season thanks to a big change at quarterback. However, Chad Kelly stepped up and performed admirably. He led the team near field goal range on his second drive of the game and then led them to a touchdown on the team’s third series. He finished the day 14-of-23 for 238 yards, showing a strong connection with Damonte Cox, who had 131 receiving yards. Kelly also added 28 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Hopefully he can improve the completion percentage a little bit but otherwise, the numbers were strong.

As for the rest of the team, the champs look liked the champs. The defence looked crisp, holding Bo Levi Mitchell to just 161 passing yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. The Ti-Cats had just six points up on the scoreboard entering the fourth quarter. If that’s how the Argos defence will look against the Ti-Cats, they should have a great day against the toothless Elks.

Edmonton Elks

It’s just two weeks into the 2023 CFL season and things are already (again) looking bleak for the Elks. The lost their home opener to Saskatchewan and then went on the road and were blanked 22-0 in B.C. The concern is that the offence is having huge issues moving the ball and now has to face one of the best defences in the league. The donut on the scoreboard speaks volumes but so do the individual stats. Quarterback Taylor Cornelius had a paltry 91 passing yards last week while the team ran for just 54 yards. They mustered a total of just seven first downs the entire game.

That’s the challenge with betting the Elks. Sure, they’ll probably win at home at some point but this week feels like a stretch against a good defence. Either ride with the Argos or take the under.
