Argonauts vs. Alouettes Prediction: CFL Week 15 Point Spread, Odds
It’s been a season of highs and lows for the Montreal Alouettes. In Week 14 the Toronto Argonauts were the cause of the latest low, crushing the Als 39-10. Less than a full week later the same clubs go at it again, but the venue is moved from Toronto’s BMO Field to Montreal’s Percival Molson Stadium.
The CFL odds have the Argonauts as -6.5 favourites.
CFL Odds and Betting
The Toronto Argonauts have gotten the better of the Montreal Alouettes in recent seasons. That success goes beyond what happened last week in the Ontario capital. Earlier this year the Argos took down the Als in Montreal in a close one, 35-27. Then of course there was the East Division final last November that also went Toronto’s way. In fact, the Alouettes have earned the spoils only once in their last six meetings with the Argos.
Toronto has impressed not only in the standings and with respect to the major statistical categories but also against the spread. They’ve compiled a brilliant 9-2 record in that regard. Incidentally, they have covered against every opponent except the Calgary Stampeders this season.
Montreal has fallen off a bit against the spread, posting a mediocre 5-7 tally. They’ve failed to cover in their four most recent opportunities. Playing at home hasn’t helped much either, as the Als are only 3-3 ATS when performing at Percival Molson Stadium.
Toronto Argonauts
It was a tale of two teams in Week 14, which is ironic given that the same sides play again this Friday. Certainly, from a Torontonian’s perspective, everything went well in the 39-10 victory over Montreal.
Whenever a club can lead a football game 23-7 after the opening stanza, it’s a pretty good day at the office. Week 14’s matchup was a prime example of how this team can dominate opponents. It’s not good news for anyone because the Argonauts can maul rivals on defence, disrupt on special teams, and march down the field with ease on offence. They tallied 135 yards on the ground to Montreal’s paltry 35. RB A.J. Ouellette (19 carries, 105 yards, 2 TDs) is a force to be reckoned with, and Chad Kelly, while not putting up truly outstanding numbers, was highly efficient (21-for-28, 278 yards.) Winning the time of possession battle 34:05 to 25:07 will always go a long way to producing wins.
Of note, WR Kurleigh Gittens Jr. is out.
Montreal Alouettes
On the flip side, everything that could have gone wrong for Montreal did. They were overwhelmed on defence, produced nothing on the attack, and fumbled on a kick-off return which put them in an early hole.
There are serious questions to be asked about this club’s credentials. They’ve handled Ottawa, Calgary, and Hamilton just fine this season, but when asked to put up a fight against the league heavyweights, it hasn’t looked good. Toronto bulldozed over the Alouettes’ defence last week when attacking on the ground. Speaking of the running game, that’s a big issue for the Alouettes. William Stanback has only one score this season and is far, far behind on the CFL rushing leaderboard. If WR Austin Mack can’t get going – he leads the CFL in receiving yards – not much happens on offence.
