Alouettes vs. Tiger-Cats Prediction: CFL Week 9 Point Spread, Odds

The Alouettes arrive in Steeltown on a high after knocking off the Calgary Stampeders 25-18 last weekend to put the brakes on a three-game SU and ATS slide. The Tiger-Cats return home after eking out a 16-12 win in Ottawa last week, and have now won and covered in three of four outings after opening their schedule on a three-game losing streak.

The Alouettes have steadily improved to 2.5-point road favourites since opening as 1-point chalk. The total has been in steady decline since opening at 46.5, tumbling to 45.

CFL Odds and Betting

Saturday night’s matchup at Tim Hortons Field marks the second of three regular season meetings between these CFL East Division rivals. The Als rolled to a decisive 38-12 victory when they visited Hamilton in Week 3, extending their current straight up and against the spread win streak in head-to-head action to four games. Each of Montreal’s past two wins over Hamilton have come by wide double-digit margins. However, the total has gone UNDER in six of their past eight meetings.

Montreal Alouettes

The Alouettes slammed the door on the Stampeders attack in last week’s 25-18 victory. While Calgary held the edge with 309 yards of net offence, the Als forced them to settle for six field goals on the night while holding pivot Jake Maier to just 24-for-44 passing for 256 yards and two picks. However, the Montreal attack did little better, with Cody Fajardo completing just 16 passes for 158 yards, no scores, and one pick. Fajardo has now failed to connect on a scoring pass in three of four outings since the team’s June rout of the Ti-Cats, and has tossed six picks over that stretch. On a positive note, William Stanback continued to make progress in the backfield while rushing for 86 yards, and now leads the squad by a wide margin with 310 rushing yards in six appearances.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats

While the Tiger-Cats currently enjoy a 3-1 resurgence, point production remains a major concern. The Ti-Cats have scored just 31 total points over their past two games, and have been limited to 15 or fewer points in four of six contests. Despite those woes, this team has defied expectations while being pegged as betting underdogs in each of their past four outings, and have failed to earn the outright win when facing Montreal while sporting positive odds since 2011. Bo Levi Mitchell produced worrisome mixed results in his return under centre against Ottawa. Mitchell racked up 353 yards on 23-for-40 passing while tossing for two scores. However, he also cost the team the win while tossing five picks on the night, a trend that will not be forgiven by the stingy Als defence. An anemic ground game adds to those woes. Hamilton generated just 24 total rushing yards last week, and just 38 yards when they faced Montreal in June.
