Alouettes vs. Tiger-Cats Prediction: CFL Week 4 Point Spread, Odds
The Alouettes have rocketed to the top of the CFL East standings and the Grey Cup odds during a 3-0-0 start capped by last weekend’s 38-28 win in Edmonton. The Tiger-Cats enjoyed an early bye last week after opening their schedule with back-to-back losses to Calgary and Saskatchewan that extends their overall slide to three games.
The Alouettes arrive in Steeltown perched as 2.5-point road favourites on the CFL Week 4 odds. The Ti-Cats trail as +120 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total for Friday’s matchup is pegged at 50.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
Friday night’s matchup is the first of two scheduled meetings between these teams this season. The Alouettes have dominated when facing the Tiger-Cats in recent years, winning nine straight while covering the spread on eight occasions.
The Als have effectively slammed the door while winning three straight in Hamilton, limiting the Ti-Cats to just 14 points per game and have seen six of their past seven head-to-head victories come by double-digit margins.
Montreal has shown flashes of that dominance during their sparkling 3-0-0 start, with their three victories coming by an average margin of 16.3 points including one-sided wins on the road in Ottawa and Edmonton to improve the team’s away record to 11-2-1 in their past 14.
While the Tiger-Cats have averaged a respectable 24.5 points per game during their 0-2-0 start, they have carried over their defensive woes from last season, allowing over 34 points per game during their three-game overall swoon.
The Ti-Cats have also been a bad bet during the month of June, losing outright and failing to cover in 12 straight since 2019 including a crushing 38-12 home loss to Montreal in 2023.
Montreal Alouettes
The Alouettes stormed out of the gate in last weekend’s visit to Edmonton, powering to a 24-6 win by halftime, on their way to a decisive 38-28 victory. Montreal’s fast starts have been accompanied by ferocious defensive play, with the squad surrendering no touchdowns and just 12 total points before halftime in their three contests to date. In addition, the six total touchdowns surrendered by the Als have all come in garbage with opponents failing to find the end zone while within 10 points of Montreal.
The squad’s stinginess has certainly made things easier for Davis Alexander in his transition to starting quarterback. Alexander enjoyed his best performance of the season in Edmonton, connecting on 20 of 24 targets for 254 yards and three touchdowns.
However, Alexander’s status for Friday is uncertain after he left last week’s game with a hamstring in jury, which also kept him out of practice early this week.
If Alexander is unable to go, Montreal will hand the ball to veteran McLeod Bethel-Thompson, who tossed for two scores and 234 yards when he last faced the Ti-Cats last season as a member of the Elks.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats
The Tiger-Cats are hoping an early bye will give them a chance to hit the reset button after yet another woeful season debut. Hamilton seized the only lead it has held all season with a first-quarter touchdown in their Week 2 date with Saskatchewan but otherwise the offence has fallen flat, with their only other major scores coming late in their losing efforts.
However, it is tough to lay all the blame on quarterback Bp Levi Mitchell, who compiled 336 yards and one score in the team’s 28-23 loss to Saskatchewan. Mitchell has developed good chemistry with receiver Kenny Lawler, who racked up 162 yards on 10 catches versus the Roughriders and should be closely watched as a value bet on the CFL player props.
