Alouettes vs. Lions Prediction: CFL Week 5 Point Spread, Odds

The Als started the season fairly positively, picking up two victories in their first two outings, winning by a combined 33 points. They hit a wall last week, though, as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers came to town and handled them easily in a 17-3 triumph.

Meanwhile, the B.C. Lions were also undefeated heading into last week’s action but were blown out 45-24 on the road in Toronto. They’re now a touchdown favourite at home in Week 6 on the CFL odds. The oddsmakers clearly seem to think they’re the more likely team to get back on track.

CFL Odds and Betting

The Alouettes have been a reliable team in bounce back situations as they’re 23-10 ATS in their last 33 after a loss. They’ve also been quite competitive in road games, going 25-11 ATS in their last 36.

As for the Lions, they’ve covered four straight following a loss as well as each of their last four home games. They’ve dominated this series, going 16-5 ATS in the last 21 meetings as the host.

Montreal Alouettes

The Alouettes were brought back down to Earth in Week 4 as they were muzzled in a 17-3 home loss. The Blue Bombers had been smarting after an ugly loss of their own the week before and they showed up focused.

A big concern for this week is the offence. A lot of the blame for last week is being pinned on quarterback Cody Fajardo and the passing game, but it’s not as if he’s had a ton of time to work. He was sacked five times. The Als have allowed the second-most sacks on the season (15) and if they don’t protect better this week, they’re likely looking at another double-digit loss. Unfortunately for the Als, the Lions lead the league in sacks with 14.

BC Lions

What in the world happened to the Lions last week? Specifically, a lot of questions are being asked of quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. He had thrown just three interceptions in his entire time as a member of the Lions. Last week, he threw a whopping six – in one game. A lot of eyes will be on him this week to see if this is a new trend or if that was just a one-week aberration.

The good news for the Lions is that they played the Argos last week, who are not only the defending Grey Cup champions but are arguably the best team in the CFL right now. This week, they’re looking at a matchup with the Als, who many would say are worse than their record indicates. The Als two wins have come against teams that are a combined 1-5. Maybe they should be a bigger underdog in this spot.
