Game 3 of the WNBA Finals will be hosted by the Connecticut Sun as they welcome the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday, September 15th at 9pm ET.

The No. 1-seeded Las Vegas Aces took a commanding 2-0 series lead over the Sun on Tuesday. The best-of-five series continues with Game 3 in Connecticut and if necessary, Game 4 in Connecticut and Game 5 in Las Vegas.

Bet on the WNBA Finals

Neither of these team has ever won a WNBA title, but that’s about to change, perhaps sooner than later. To get to this point, Las Vegas had no problem sweeping the Phoenix Mercury and then managed to eliminate the Seattle Storm in just four games.

Connecticut beat Dallas in round one and then ousted last year’s champions – Chicago Sky – winning 3-2 in the five game series.

Connecticut Sun

In Game 2, the Sun got an excellent showing from Courtney Williams with 18 points and five assists, and another stellar performance from Jonquel Jones with 16 points and 11 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough for a win. Alyssa Thomas and Brionna Jones scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Connecticut head coach Curt Miller spoke to the press after the disappointing loss, which sets the team up for a win-or-you’re-out Game 3, saying “We just felt like we were playing catch-up all night because we couldn’t string together consecutive stops. And again, we’re trying to find disruption. We’re trying to keep this high-powered offense out of rhythm. And tonight, we really struggled to do that.”

Jones talked to reporters on the team’s mental attitude about coming into Game 3 in a must-win scenario, saying “We’re just taking it one game at a time now. That’s all we can do. We’re gonna go back home, like you said, we’re gonna have our fans behind us, who’ve been with us the entire season, and we’re gonna use that to propel us to win. That’s all we can do.”

Las Vegas Aces

The Aces vaulted to a Game 2 win in large part due to the play of WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson, who came away with 26 points and 10 rebounds. She had tons of help from teammates Chelsea Gray with 21 points and eight assists, and Kelsey Plum with 20 points and seven assists.

Gray talked to press after the game about the team potentially winning the championship this season, saying, “It’s gonna take every bit of every body and you know, you can see the stats, you can see the points and what it says, but it’s the toughness, the little things that’s going to get it done. … We’ve been a good road team this year, all year, so we might as well just go ahead and try to win on the road.”
