There are still some big names vying for the titles – but not the biggest. Joining Sabalenka on the sidelines are Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic. Carlos Alcaraz didn’t even show up at Roland Garros because of a wrist injury.

So, who is still alive as the fortnight soon comes to a close? The women’s field is down to Mirra Andreeva, Marta Kostyuk, Diana Shnaider and Maja Chwalinska. In the men’s bracket, the first semifinal matchup features Alexander Zverev and Jakub Mensik.

Let’s take a look at some of the semifinal matchups at Roland Garros and discuss the best bets to make.

French Open semifinals – Alexander Zverev vs. Jakub Mensik best bet: Over 37.5 games (-120)

With top players tumbling out of the tournament around him, Zverev has cemented himself as the favourite to secure his long-awaited first Grand Slam title. The 29-year-old German cannot get caught looking ahead, however, and his next order of business is to get past Mensik on Friday. It may not be easy.

At just 20 years old, it’s clear that Mensik is a big-stage player. He beat Novak Djokovic to win the 2025 Miami Masters 1000 title, and now he is into a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time after taking down fellow rising star Joao Fonseca in straight sets on Tuesday night. Zverev and Mensik just faced each other last month on the red clay of Madrid, where the world No. 3 survived 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3. Another competitive contest is likely in the cards.

French Open semifinals – Mirra Andreeva vs. Marta Kostyuk best bet: Over 21.5 games (-115)

This is a showdown between top-15 players, and whoever wins will certainly be favoured to lift the trophy on Saturday afternoon. Andreeva is the higher-ranked player and has more experience at the business end of Grand Slams, but Kostyuk has the edge in current form and leads their head-to-head series 2-0. As such, something has to give on Thursday – and neither woman is likely to give way without a fight.

Kostyuk has won 16 matches in a row on clay this spring, while Andreeva finished runner-up in Madrid (lost to Kostyuk) and also reached the Roland Garros semis in 2024. This may not be a marquee matchup for the casual sports fan, but it should be a real treat for whoever appreciates high-quality tennis. It should be a three-set thriller.

French Open semifinals – Diana Shnaider vs. Maja Chwalkinska best bet: Shnaider ML (-175)

Shnaider vs. Chwalinska in a Grand Slam semifinal?!?! You can’t make this stuff up, folks. When even the hardest of hardcore tennis fans needs a primer on who a major semifinalist is, you know it’s someone unexpected. So, who is Chwalkinska? She is a 24-year-old from Poland ranked No. 114 in the world. As a result of being well outside the top 100, Chwalinska had to win three qualifying matches simply to get into the main draw. Full credit to her for making it this far, but it has to be said that she benefited from a favourable path through the bracket.

Chwalinska did not beat anyone seeded better than No. 22 during her run to the semis. Shnaider (25th) is not seeded especially high, either, but she is playing like one of the best players in the world. The Russian left-hander defeated Madison Keys in round four and then stunned world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. Shnaider belongs on this kind of stage. Does Chwalinska? We’ll find out. The smart money says that Shnaider should be an even bigger favourite.
