Canada's Eugenie Bouchard Named World’s Most Marketable Athlete
Genie Bouchard has stepped her game up – off the court, anyway. She’s been named the world’s most marketable athlete.
A few days ahead of the French Open, Eugenie Bouchard is trying to snap an early season slump, but that didn’t deter SportsPro from naming her the world’s most marketable athlete. This is the first time a female has topped the list.
Genie’s Army Takes Over
The 21-year-old Canadian hailing from Westmount, a community just outside Montreal’s downtown core, finished just ahead of Brazilian football star Neymar. Other notable names among the top 10 included Jordan Speith, Steph Curry and Usain Bolt. Steven Stamkos was the only other Canadian on the list, checking in at No. 37.

“Eugenie Bouchard showed in 2014 that she is an athlete of tremendous potential who is able to make a real connection with her fans. The last few months have not gone as she might have hoped but we think her achievements so far are those of a player of substance who will make her mark at the top end of women’s tennis over the next three years,” SportsPro editor Eoin Connolly said.
Bouchard climbed as high as No. 5 in the WTA rankings last fall after an excellent 2014 and she heads into Roland Garos at No. 6. Bouchard’s odds to win the French Open currently sit at 21-1, meaning a $10 wager would yield $220.
