2022 French Open Women’s Final Tennis Odds, Prediction
The women’s French Open tennis final from the clay courts in Paris is Saturday morning Eastern time as top-seeded Iga Swiatek is a heavy favourite on the tennis odds against No. 18 Coco Gauff.
Swiatek vs. Gauff French Open Odds
While she can’t win the calendar-year Grand Slam after losing in the semifinals of the Australian Open, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek from Poland could be in the midst of a historic season. She crushed No. 20 Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 6-1 in 64 minutes on Thursday at Roland Garros to reach the French Open final for the second time – she won the title in 2020.
It was Swiatek’s 34th win in a row, tying Serena Williams for the second-longest such streak on Tour this century; Venus Williams holds the record this century of 35 in a row in 2000. The longest all-time WTA streak is 74 straight by Martina Navratilova in 1984.
Swiatek, 21, has not lost since February and has dropped only two sets in her past four tournaments. Swiatek had beaten Kasatkina handily in each of their three meetings earlier in 2022 and it was more of the same Thursday even though Kasatkina had not dropped a set en route to the semifinal. Swiatek hit 22 winners to Kasatkina’s 10 and had just 13 unforced errors to Kasatkina’s 24. Swiatek won 79 per cent of her points on first serve and 58 per cent on her second.
Coco Gauff, an 18-year-old American, also cruised in her semifinal match, 6-3, 6-1 over unseeded Martina Trevisan to become the youngest finalist at Roland Garros since Kim Clijsters in 2001. Gauff is the youngest woman to reach a Grand Slam final since 17-year-old Maria Sharapova at 2004 Wimbledon and the youngest American woman to reach one since 17-year-old Serena Williams at the 1999 U.S. Open. Gauff hasn’t lost a set in Paris and won 74 per cent of first-serve points compared to Trevisan’s 46 per cent.
Swiatek is -833 to win this match and Gauff +480. Swiatek is the only Polish women to win the French Open. Several Americans have but not since Serena Williams in 2015. In both 2018 (Sloane Stephens) and 2020 (Sofia Kenin), U.S. women lost in the final – Kenin to Swiatek.
Head-to-head all-time, Swiatek leads 2-0 Gauff. They played earlier this year on the hard courts in Miami and she won 6-3, 6-1. The other was in Rome in 2021 and also a straight-set win. That Swiatek wins in straight sets Saturday is -262. That Gauff does is +1000.
