Inter Milan vs. Liverpool UEFA Champions League Preview and Prediction
This Tuesday finds an exclusive set of Champions League fixtures featuring Italy’s Inter Milan and England’s Liverpool at the San Siro, with a 3 PM ET kickoff.
Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes are slowly slipping away, but they can still clutch a UEFA Champions League trophy, as a win on Tuesday would be a huge statement against Serie A leaders, Inter Milan. There are still three matches to go in the UCL league phase, meaning anything can still happen.
Inter Milan vs. Liverpool UCL Odds and Betting Trends
The two European clubs meet for the first time in four years since battling it out over two legs in the 2021-22 Champions League Round of 16. Liverpool won the first leg 2-0, while Inter picked up a 1-0 victory in the second leg, allowing Liverpool to progress to the Quarterfinals 2-1 on aggregate.
The Italian side takes home turf advantage at the San Siro in Milan on Tuesday with +115 odds to win on the three-way Champions League moneyline. Liverpool has been particularly vulnerable this season, entering the match at +210 odds to win, with a draw set at +260. The Over 2.5 goals is slightly favoured at -155 odds, with the Under 2.5 priced at +110.
Liverpool
Liverpool is amidst one of their most troubling English Premier League seasons in decades. They sit in ninth place with 23 points, and a 1-2-2 record in their last five games in all competitions. They lost their most recent UCL matchup 4-1 against PSV and drew their two most recent EPL matches 1-1 to Sunderland and 3-3 to Leeds. Even though things just aren’t clicking for the Reds, they do still have the talent and personnel to get the job done; they need to spark it.
However, things don’t seem to be improving after star attacker Mohamed Salah criticized manager Arne Slot after the Reds’ 1-1 draw on Saturday. The Egyptian King has been on the bench for three consecutive games and said that he feels like “the club has thrown me under the bus”.
Striker Alexander Isak netted his first Premier League goal of the season on November 30, and comes in as the Reds’ shortest goalscorer at +225 odds. Hugo Ekitike secured a brace in his last match against Leeds, and follows Isak’s lead tomorrow afternoon at +235 odds to score anytime.
Inter Milan
Inter Milan is hardly worried by the stakes of this match, as the Serie A league leaders still reside in fourth in the Champions League standings with a 4-0-1 record. Their only two recent losses in their last five games (2-1 to Atletico and 1-0 to AC Milan) were to formidable opponents, and the Italian side has since fired off three straight wins with their most recent Serie A victory concluding 4-0 over Como on Saturday.
Lautaro Martinez has four goals in four games in the UCL league phase so far, and comes in tomorrow afternoon as the game’s highest probable goalscorer at +175 odds, followed by teammate Marcus Thuram at +190, then Ange-Yoan Bonny and Francesco Esposito both at +210 odds.
UCL Prediction: Who Will Win Inter Milan vs. Liverpool?
Settling on a decision between these two clubs isn’t easy, and it’s tempting to bet against Liverpool (which is unusual) this season. However, Liverpool have got up for some big games this season, including a 3-2 win over Atletico, and 1-0 wins over both Arsenal and Real Madrid, although all three of those games were at Anfield.
Inter Milan is one of the top four Champions League contenders and has been in quality form throughout the season. This match won’t be easy for them, though, and they’ve even slipped to Champions League contenders, Atletico, which Liverpool defeated.
All factors considered, I think a 2-2 draw at +260 is in store for this one, hitting the Over 2.5 goals at -155, and even the Liverpool +0.5 spread at -150, giving the Reds some confidence as they head back to England.
