NFL Spreads Week 6: Best Picks Against the Spread
In a 16-game schedule, the NFL landscape can change drastically from one week to the next.
With six National Football League teams holding unbeaten records heading into Week 6, contenders are beginning to separate themselves from pretenders.
The Green Bay Packers (5-0) currently sit as +250 Super Bowl favourites, just ahead of the New England Patriots (4-0) at +275. From there, there’s been a lot of movement. The Denver Broncos are 5-0 despite their offensive issues and sit at +800 with the 5-0 Cincinnati Bengals, while the 5-0 Atlanta Falcons sit at +1000.
That leaves the 4-0 Carolina Panthers coming in as the undefeated +3300 Super Bowl odds longshot heading into Week 6’s date against the Seattle Seahawks. The Panthers opened as 6.5-point underdogs in the Week 6 point spreads and odds.
Odds updated noon ET Oct. 14.
NFL Spreads Week 5: Best Picks against the Spread
NFL Week 6 Odds
Thursday Night Football
Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints
Point spread: Falcons -3 / -3.5
The Atlanta Falcons aren’t sure of Julio Jones’ status as he’s dealing with an ongoing hamstring problem. If he can’t go that’s obviously a big loss, but not one you should overreact to. The Saints are getting pushed around and rank 30th against the run.
Pick against the spread: Falcons -3
Arizona Cardinals at Pittsburgh Steelers
Point spread: Cardinals -3
The Cardinals still aren’t getting enough respect. They’re 4-1 and might be the second best team in the NFC.
Pick against the spread: Cardinals -3
Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions
Point spread: Lions -2.5 / -3
As soon as everyone started talking about the Bears being the best bet to draft first overall, they started getting it together. Last weekend they overcame a 17-3 deficit at halftime to beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead and they could get Alshon Jeffery back.
Pick against the spread: Bears +2.5
Cincinnati Bengals at Buffalo Bills
Point spread: Bengals -2.5 / -3 / -3.5
A lot depends on the health of Buffalo’s backfield in this one. It doesn’t look good at the moment with quarterback Tyrod Taylor and the team’s top two running backs hurting.
Pick against the spread: Bengals -2.5
Point spread: Denver -4 / -4.5
So Peyton Manning can’t throw 50-yard darts all over the field anymore – big deal. Denver might own the league’s best defence and if the Broncos’ running game is ever going to take off, this week against the 31st-ranked run defence seems like a good time.
Pick against the spread: Broncos -4
Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars
Point spread: Texans -2 / -1.5 / Pick ’em
Neither of these teams can stop anybody, so if you’re struggling with this one, you have to side with the more polished offence. We don’t even know who Houston’s starting quarterback is yet.
Pick against the spread: Jaguars +2
Kansas City Chiefs at Minnesota Vikings
Point spread: Vikings -3.5 / -4
Without Jaamal Charles, the Chiefs may actually be forced to throw the ball more than 15 yards down the field. That seems like an Alex Smith nightmare.
Pick against the spread: Vikings -3.5
Miami Dolphins at Tennessee Titans
Point spread: Titans -3 / -2.5
A rookie quarterback’s best friend is often his defence and Marcus Mariota is getting a lot of help from the Titans on the other side of the ball. Tennessee ranks first in passing defence and third overall. The Titans should be in Ryan Tennehill’s grill all day.
Pick against the spread: Titans -3
Point spread: Jets -7 / -6
The Jets are coming off their bye and should be ready to hit the ground running in Week 6. However, Washington took Atlanta to overtime and has covered the point spread in three of its last four. This one looks like it’ll come down to the wire.
Pick against the spread: Washington +7
Carolina Panthers at Seattle Seahawks
Point spread: Seahawks -6.5 / -7
If it feels like the Seahawks are getting too much respect with their NFL odds every week, it’s because they are. Seattle is just 1-3 against the spread this year and the Panthers’ defence is giving Cam Newton and the offence the support it needs.
Pick against the spread: Panthers +6.5
Baltimore Ravens at San Francisco 49ers
Point spread: Ravens -2.5
Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers are getting ripped in the media, but they’re far from terrible. They’ve lost at Pittsburgh, at Arizona, home to Green Bay and at the Giants last week. Those are all tough games. If they can get Kaepernick a little time in the pocket they could upset the Ravens.
Pick against the spread: 49ers +2.5
San Diego Chargers at Green Bay Packers
Point spread: Packers -10 / -10.5
Take a deep breath and bite the bullet at Packers -10. They’re 5-0 against the spread and have beaten each of their last four by at least 10 points.
Pick against the spread: Packers -10
Sunday Night Football
New England Patriots at Indianapolis Colts
Point spread: Patriots -8 / -7.5 / -8.5 / -9
Until the Colts show us something, you can’t trust them especially when Andrew Luck probably still isn’t 100 percent.
Pick against the spread: Patriots -8
Monday Night Football
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles
Point spread: Eagles -4
The Giants could easily be 5-0 heading into this Monday Night Football matchup and it’s hard to say whether the Eagles have caught flight just yet. This could be a tough game for Philadelphia to establish the run against New York’s No.2-ranked rush defence.
Pick against the spread: New York Giants +4
