Odds Make Conor McGregor Boxing Underdog vs. Floyd Mayweather

The chance of this fight ever happening is extremely unlikely, but why should that stop us from posting odds on what would be one of the most controversial and most popular fights of all time? Conor McGregor just enjoyed a very convincing win over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, and almost immediately after, he started to fuel rumors that he was going after more than just every possible belt in MMA, but after a boxing title as well. Floyd Mayweather’s.

Sports Interaction’s current odds have Floyd Mayweather opening as the massive favorite, at -3425, with Conor McGregor currently listed at +950.

The Notorious went so far as to further fuel that speculation by obtaining a boxing licence from the state of California. The 39-year-old Mayweather would have to come out of retirement in order to fight the decade younger UFC champion.

As far as both of their camps are concerned, this is never going to become a reality. Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe tolf ESPN that “the bottom line…is that Conor McGregor is under contract with the UFC, period, point blank, and he can’t do anything on his own without the approval of Dana White and the brass at WME/IMG. They’re not going to let him do anything like this. The fact is, they didn’t invest $4.2 billion into that company to have the face of their brand [destroyed].”

Dana White said on the UFC website that McGregor “is not fighting Floyd Mayweather. Floyd Mayweather isn’t going to fight him. It’s never going to happen.”

Fellow boxer Amir Kahn weighed in on the subject, saying that he didn’t think Mayweather would even entertain the idea. “When Mayweather knows he’s in a real fight, he just backs out of it. It was good hype while it lasted but I knew it was never going to happen. If it did happen, it would be the biggest fight ever.”

McGregor has expressed his McGregorish opinions on the matter via twitter.
