United States vs. Bolivia Prediction: Copa America Betting Odds

The US looks to regain their form after going winless in a pair of pre-tournament friendlies when they open their Copa America schedule with a Group C matchup against Bolivia.

After suffering a crushing 5-1 loss to Colombia, the Americans were lucky to escape with a 1-1 draw last week while getting largely outclassed by Brazil. Bolivia have not fared much better in the lead up to this year’s tournament, falling to defeat in three straight friendlies, and arrive in Arlington for their tournament opener riding a 12-match losing streak in Copa America action.

Team USA have emerged as clear favourites on the Sunday Copa America odds, sporting short -550 odds. Bolivia lag as distant +1450 underdogs while the odds of this contest ending in a draw are pegged at +600. Lots of scoring is expected with -165 odds favouring the total to go OVER 2.5.

United States vs. Bolivia Betting Analysis

Sunday night’s matchup marks the first meeting between these sides since 2018. The United States dominated in two friendly matchups over the pst decade outgunning La Verde by a combined 7-0 score and have now blanked Bolivia in three straight tilts after failing to earn a win in their first five all-time clashes. However, Bolivia eked out a 1-0 win when these squads met for the very first time in Copa America group stage action, back in 1995.

In addition to their poor showing in recent friendlies, the United States also have work to do to atone for the poor finish in their most recent Copa America appearance eight years, which they closed out with losses to Argentina and Colombia in the semi-finals and third-place playoff while getting outscored by 5-0 combined margin. Indeed, the Americans have produced mixed results at this tournament, advancing out of the group stage just twice in four appearances. Bolivia have nowhere to go but up following their brutal performance in pre-tourney friendlies. La Verde have struggled at both ends of the pitch while getting outscored by a wide 30-9 margin while compiling a 2-1-11 win-draw-loss record in their past 14 across all competitions.

United States

Listed just shy of the favourites as a +1200 bet on the Copa America championship odds, the United States hope to build on their recent success in CONCACAF Gold Cup and Nations league action. After enjoying a favourable group stage draw, USA sit second to Uruguay as a +130 bet to finish atop the Group C table and as a +400 bet to win all three group stage matches. However, this squad must find ways to reignite an offence that has been limited to just eight total goals in six overall matches and claimed wins in just two of six matches against teams participating in this tournament. Midfielder Christian Pulisic emerged as one of the few bright spots in this month’s loss to Brazil, scoring once while hitting the target four times. The 25-year-old has also scored 29 times in 68 career appearances with the USMNT. However, it is Haji Wright who leads the way on the Copa America player props as a -105 bet to score anytime on Sunday.

Pegged at No. 84 on the FIFA rankings, Bolivia is the lowest ranked national side participating in this year’s tournament, and with good reason. Following an embarrassing performance in World Cup qualifying that cost manager Gustavo Costas his job, the squad continued to founder during a 1-0-4 run in friendly competition, with their lone win coming by a 1-0 score over European lightweights Andorra. Adding to their woes is the recent retirement of all-time leading goal scorer Marcelo Martins Moreno and the loss of regulars Jairo Quinteros and Henry Vaca to injury. In addition to amping up the pressure on veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Viscarra, those omissions leave La Verde looking for someone to step up offensively. Carmelo Algarañaz has emerged as the top Bolivian shooter on the anytime goal scoring odds as a +550 bet. However, the -155 odds of the United States keeping a clean sheet offers far more value.
