Tottenham vs Manchester City Betting Analysis

For all of City’s dominance in England in recent years, they’ve struggled against the North London side. Including all competitions, Spurs hold a 4-3 lead over the past seven meetings, with one of those three defeats coming in 2021 in the League Cup. Prior to Manchester’s eruption for four goals in the second half of their contest just a couple of weeks ago, it seriously looked as if Spurs were going to earn their third straight over the Premier League heavyweights.

Guardiola’s side was busy during the January transfer window. Joao Cancelo was sent on loan to Bayern Munich. Conversely, the rumours concerning midfielder Maximo Perrone’s arrival from Vélez Sarsfield were confirmed on Jan. 23. An already mighty middle third of the pitch is bolstered for a second-half push that they hope will see a third consecutive Premier League trophy lifted by season’s end.

Not to be outdone by their rivals, Tottenham welcomed right-back Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon to improve what has been, admittedly, a disappointing defensive effort this year. The Spaniard arrives on loan, but the contract comes with an obligation to buy after the campaign ends.

Tottenham Hotspur

As Conte’s ensemble marches into its 22nd match of the season, the situation is inching closer to “desperate times.” Last year’s brilliant second-half push saw the club earn a Champions League spot – which they have cashed in on by qualifying for the knockout stages – and a similar effort will be required this season. They sit in fifth, which isn’t poor, three points behind Manchester United. The problem is that United have a game in hand and are playing wonderful football, unlike Spurs.

Unsurprisingly, Harry Kane leads the way with 16 goals, and the club has needed every single one of them given the number of occasions when they’ve trailed 1-0 or 2-0 at halftime this year. Even Son Heung-Min, who was instrumental in helping push his side into the top four, is playing below par in 2022-2023. One wonders how the team would manage should Kane need to sit out a few weeks. Examples of their recent struggles came at home to rivals Arsenal and away to City. The Gunners took what they wanted when they wanted in, winning 2-0, a final score that flattered Spurs to an extent. Subsequently, City rumbled back from 2-0 down to squash Conte’s men 4-2.

Manchester City

In a testament to how superbly Manchester City have been under Guardiola, this season feels like an off year. Consider that they’ve won four of the previous five Premier League titles and so far sport a 14-3-3 record and +33 goal differential. Most teams on the planet would love to be in that position.

And yet, to many peoples’ surprise, it’s Arsenal who lead the table. Not only does City trail by five points but their rivals have a game in hand. As such, they’ll surely want to take care of business against Spurs. Erling Halland is a force to be reckoned with. No one has to be honest. His 25 goals so far are sensational. Lest it be overlooked, he played his part in the comeback win over Tottenham in their previous tête-à-tête. That much-needed victory seems to have given some wind in Manchester’s sails. They have since defeated Wolves 3-0 and eliminated the aforementioned Gunners in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
