Toronto FC vs. Columbus Crew MLS Preview and Prediction

It’s Matchday 29 of the 2025 MLS season as we find ourselves amid a promising Eastern Conference matchup between Toronto FC and the Columbus Crew. It’s time for the Crew to get back in action after returning from the Leagues Cup, where they currently reside in fifth place in the MLS East with 44 points and a 12-8-5 record. Toronto FC sits in 12th with 22 points and a 5-7-13 record, and I’m not sure how they’ll pull off the upset in this one.

It will be interesting to see how the hosts perform at their home stadium, BMO Field, with kickoff occurring this Saturday at 7:30 PM ET.

Columbus is a -110 favourite to win on the MLS odds, while Toronto is a +260 underdog and a draw is listed at +270.

Toronto FC vs. Columbus Crew MLS Odds and Betting Trends

Throughout their 49 total meetings, there’s never been a shortage of goals, with the Crew netting 74 compared to Toronto’s 60, meaning there’s likely to be over 2.5 goals when the two sides face off. Since November 2023, the Columbus Crew has scored 11 goals in five meetings against Toronto, while the Canadian squad has only managed to hit the back of the net twice, with each game ending with no fewer than two goals in total.

One factor to consider for this game is that the Columbus Crew shut out Toronto in three of the last four games. With Toronto’s current -7 goal differential, this could very well be the case once again.

Columbus Crew

The Crew have shown promise in their 2024-25 MLS campaign, as they head back to MLS play after being knocked out of the Leagues Cup. They finished in sixth, only failing to make the quarterfinals due to goal differential. In their last five MLS matches, they recorded two wins, two losses, and one draw.

Columbus will need to lock it down in the back, where their main vulnerability lies. In their previous five matches, they allowed at least one goal and conceded three goals against both Orlando City and Nashville SC. However, midfielder Diego Rossi has been a force to be reckoned with this campaign (12 goals and 5 assists in 24 games).

Toronto FC

The home side needs a big win to have any chance of moving into one of the top nine spots in the Eastern Conference. While they aren’t in the best form, they’re 1-2-2 in their last five matches and were one of nine Eastern Conference teams to sit out of this year’s Leagues Cup. Toronto’s main issue stems from a lack of goalscoring ability, and the team has only scored one goal in its last three matches.

They recently ended a two-game losing streak with a 1-1 draw against the Philadelphia Union, but their top goal scorer, Theo Corbeanu, has only five goals in 23 games. Toronto’s biggest loss comes down to the contract termination of Federico Bernadeschi (four goals and four assists in 15 games). The Italian is heading back to Serie A’s Bologna FC.

MLS Prediction: Who Will Win Toronto FC vs. Columbus Crew?

Toronto FC has a lot to prove, and in their last five matches against Columbus, they’ve only snatched one win, as the Crew holds the winning head-to-head record with three wins and one draw. Therefore, my bet is clearly on the Columbus Crew. They have more attacking firepower, the ability to secure big wins, and a better goal differential (+5).

If Toronto wins at home tonight, it will be an unexpected upset, especially with the release of Federico Bernadeschi. All things considered, I think this one will end 3-0 in favour of the Crew, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Diego Rossi finds the nets once again (+135).
