There are no two ways about it. It has been a good campaign for TFC. The club sports a dismal 3-10-7 record (win-draw-loss), good for 14th in the East. They were swatted aside 3-0 in the middle of last week away to Cincinnati. On Saturday they put up a much better fight, but as has been the case so often, it wasn’t good enough. The Revolution defeated them 2-1.

And that was all the franchise needed to see from manager Bob Bradley. TFC let him go on Monday. The father of team captain Doug Bradley, Bob Bradley arrived as coach in 2021 but never managed to rekindle the spirit or quality of the 2016-2017 teams who played two consecutive finals, winning in 2017.

He leaves the club having tallied a 14-26-19 overall record.

Terry Dunfield, who used to suit up for the team, will serve as interim head coach as a search for a new leader begins. Dunfield was handling coaching duties with the club’s under-17 academy squad.

Bradley’s time on the sideline was tumultuous. Mounting injuries and difficult contract situations with certain key players in no way helped his cause, but overall, the performances simply were not at the level expected of a team that, only a few years ago, was one of the best in the entire league. The product on the field, the famous “eye test,” was rarely up to par. Then of course there were awkward episodes between him and some players, such Federico Bernardeschi, who openly criticized the team’s playing style, or lack thereof, in May.

It’s not too late to find some light in the dark tunnel that is the 2023 season, but the club definitely has a lot of work ahead of itself.
