Sweden vs. Ukraine Betting Odds

Sweden won a very tough matchup against Poland to make their way in the final 16 while Ukraine was able to qualify for the knockouts for the first time ever in a Euro tournament. However, it’s hard to get too excited as they only made it after knocking off North Macedonia.

These two teams prepare for what should be a very intense, equal match, so let’s see which side has the upper hand.

Sweden

Sweden is one of the luckier teams so far in the tournament. As of right now, they aren’t hindered by any injuries to their starting lineup. Their main challenge – if they want to make a serious run – is finding a reliable partner for Alexander Isak. It is likely we will be seeing Marcus Berg at that position for this match despite Robin Quaison starting there against Poland.

The key to Sweden is offence as normally, we see this team stack up their defence and try to win 1-0, but they may not be able to do that against Ukraine. Poland proved that their strategy isn’t as good as they thought by dominating the final few minutes of the match and really putting a scare into them. Sweden didn’t look that great offensively in that game either but were able to do enough to walk away with the victory. They scored a total of four goals in the groups stage with three of them coming against Poland. Against Ukraine, they are badly going to need another player to step up and perform in this match and present some kind of offensive threat or they could be in for a tough time. They’re good enough defensively, though, so their strategy of playing from the back should work against a mediocre team like Ukraine.

Ukraine

Ukraine has a few players sitting on the injury list at the moment with both Denys Popov and Oleksandr Zubkov questionable. There are also some questions regarding Ruslan Malinovskiy as he was taken off the field at half time in their match against Austria.

Ukraine may have been able to make the tournament off a few solid performances but looking back to qualification, they haven’t been overly successful. Since the beginning of 2020, the team is just 4-4-6 overall (not including Euro). They were really quite lucky to advance and had they been in a modestly challenging group, there’s no way they’d be moving on. They lost to Netherlands to start the tournament, albeit they gave a valiant effort in the 3-2 defeat. Then they beat North Macedonia with a modest 2-1 scoreline and then fell to Austria 1-0. The fact that they even conceded a goal to North Macedonia and the fact that they couldn’t find the back of the net against Austria is concerning. They’ll have a tough time getting anything past Sweden’s stout defense.
