Manchester United vs. Chelsea EPL Preview and Prediction
It’s the Blues vs. the Red Devils this weekend as Matchday 5 of the English Premier League kicks off. Chelsea returns from a tough Champions League match against Bayern, while Manchester United sits in silence, their pride swallowed by the loss to their rivals in the Manchester Derby last Sunday.

Chelsea opens as a +140 favourite to win on the Premier League odds, while Manchester United is a +165 underdog. A regulation draw is priced at +270.
Manchester United vs. Chelsea EPL Odds and Betting Trends
It’s not considered a traditional derby, but it may as well be one of the many tense EPL rivalries. In their last five EPL meetings, United have two wins, Chelsea has two victories, and there’s been one draw. Scoring doesn’t seem to trouble either side, as those five games warranted 18 goals, with the most recent 1-0 win going to Chelsea.
United haven’t beaten the Blues since December 2023, and it would be a real shocker to see them win by a large margin tomorrow. However, Chelsea are only slight favourites at +140 on the three-way moneyline, but that may make them a good bang for your buck, as United sits at +165, which I think is riskier. There’s always the potential for a draw in these competitive games, which is priced at +270, although I’m inclined to go with Chelsea here.
Chelsea
Chelsea came back to the EPL after a 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in Matchday 1 of the UEFA Champions League. While it wasn’t the greatest turnaround from their 2-2 draw to Brentford last weekend, they were able to net a consolation goal against the German giants. The Blues have only failed to score in one game so far this season, which was their first EPL match against Crystal Palace, and they currently sit in fifth in the EPL.
Cole Palmer netted the only goal against Bayern on Wednesday, and although he has only scored one goal this season, he’s priced at +190 for this match. Moises Caicedo (+1300), Enzo Fernandez (+550), and Joao Pedro (+215) all have two goals to their name this season, leaving Chelsea to be a major threat on the attack.
Manchester United
Manchester United’s horrid 2024-25 season led them to miss the Champions League and Europa League this season, leaving them solely to focus on the Premier League. Their start to this EPL season hasn’t been too promising either, as they sit at 14th place with four points and are coming off a fresh 3-0 defeat to their Manchester City rivals.
United have allowed a lot of goals (seven) without creating many chances of their own, with two of their four goals scored coming from own goals. Both Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo each have a goal to their name this season; however, it’s Matheus Cunha who’s priced at +125 to score for the Red Devils.
EPL Prediction: Who Will Win Manchester United vs. Chelsea?
Last week, I put too much faith in United to pull out a draw against City. This time, though, United takes home-field advantage at Old Trafford. I’m still inclined to believe Chelsea will earn the win at +140 odds on the three-way moneyline as the safe bet.
With Chelsea’s goalscoring ability and an average of over three goals scored per game in these teams’ last five meetings, I could also suggest taking over 2.5 goals scored at -135, as this game should end in a 2-1 Chelsea victory.
