Ghana vs. Germany – Expect a Backlash From Germany

A questionable red card against Serbia put Germany’s place in the knockout rounds at risk, Al Dannity says all doubt will go out the window come the final whistle against Ghana.

Pity the Black Stars

Much like John McClane, Ghana appears to be the wrong team in the wrong place at the wrong time. Leading the real Group of Death in this World Cup with 4 points from a possible 6 should be a good position and it would be were Ghana set to face Australia or Serbia. Unfortunately Ghana has already played those two teams and now must take on the biggest dog in the yard. And it’s an angry dog. Psychologically no team is more set for the final game of the group stage than Germany. Lying in second but know only victory will secure a place in the knockout stages, Germany is keen to show that with 11 players there isn’t a team on the planet that can contain its lethal attack. The red card given to Miroslave Klose last time out was questionable at best. Somebody has to answer and that somebody is going to be Ghana.

Reasons to be fearful

There was a lot for Ghana fans to take on board from its draw with Australia. The team, while organised, showed a lack of invention and allowed a poor Australian team to boss them around. A repeat performance would spell certain doom against an attack which will surely see Lukas Podolski eager to make up for a poor showing against Serbia. I like Podolski at+150 with Sports Interaction to score in this game.  The potency of Germany is only the beginning of Ghana’s trouble.

The problem posed by Germany’s attack are only made worse by what will be happening in the game between Serbia and Australia. While there are some outside possibilities that might save Ghana, the way the group currently stands a defeat against Germany would almost certainly put Ghana out. A win for Australia might save Ghana because of goal difference but even that will require some luck. The only way Ghana can be sure of survival is by winning this game.

Germany to end African hopes

There will still, technically, be one African teams left in the World Cup no matter what happens in this game. That is merely an accident of timing. Ghana is the great hope for the continent to put a team into the knockout rounds in this competition but it doesn’t look good. A draw might not be enough for Germany so they will have to go all out to win. Despite Ghana’s organised defense this one isn’t going to be close. Back Germany to win and top the group in the process.
