The reigning World Cup champions, France, won’t be at full strength for their Euro 2020 Round of 16 match, but that hasn’t prevented oddsmakers from making them a clear favourite on the soccer odds. The Swiss are fortunate to have made it this far, needing a 3-1 win over Turkey to clinch a spot in the Round of 16.

France vs. Switzerland Betting Odds

The French side is a massive favourite in the first meeting between these clubs since 2014 – and if you put any stock in head-to-head history, this game could be a closer one than the books anticipate. France and Switzerland have drawn in four of their previous five meetings dating back to 2005, with each of those games coming in under the 2.5-goal threshold. Oddsmakers aren’t buying it, making the Swiss a +643 underdog while pricing the full-timed draw at +313.

As for the history of low-scoring affairs between the clubs, that might play at least a minor role in the U2.5 being set at -142, with the O2.5 at +110. It might also have to do with the fact that France finished below the 2.5-goal total in two of its three group matches. Switzerland, on the other hand, surpassed that barrier in two of three European Championship matches and has seen at least three goals scored in nine of its past 12 games across all competitions.

If the French do somehow fall in a Round of 16 shocker, they can point to some key absences as a major factor. The world champions will be without back-end stalwarts Lucas Digne and Lucas Hernandez, while Adrien Rabiot and Ousmane Dembele will also sit this one out. Fortunately for the French side, they still boast the outstanding forward duo of Karim Benzema (+125) and Kylian Mbappe (+154), both of whom are great choices for anytime goals.

Which version of the Swiss team will show up in Bucharest on Monday? The side that looked completely overmatched in a 3-0 loss to Italy, or the one that rebounded for a pivotal two-goal triumph over Turkey? Working in Switzerland’s favour is the fact that they come into this match completely healthy and able to field their top starting XI – a unit led by Haris Seferovic up front and star left flanker Steven Zuber, who had three assists last time out.
