League champions, Liverpool, look to continue their quest to break the Premier League points record on Wednesday, when they travel to Falmer Stadium to take on 15th place Brighton & Hove Albion.  The 3:15 p.m. ET match sees Liverpool as -202 favourites and a draw at +306 while Brighton goes for the upset win at +449 on the soccer odds.

Brighton & Hove Albion Odds and News

It is still possible to see Brighton drop out of the top-flight for next season, but their 36 points have them nine points clear of the relegation zone and they would need to be jumped by Watford, West Ham and either Aston Villa or Bournemouth in the next five games to be in danger.  With seven-points in the four games since the restart (two wins, one loss and one tie), it seems unlikely Brighton is in any real relegation danger.

Leandro Trossard’s tally was the lone goal for Brighton, last match, and they walked away with a 1-0 victory over last-place Norwich City.  If Brighton can sustain their momentum and hang on for the next five matches, they will tie their club-record of three consecutive seasons in the top-flight.  Wednesday’s match could prove difficult though, as Brighton has never earned a point against Liverpool.

 Liverpool FC Odds and News

It seems odd to say about a team that is 23-points ahead of second place Manchester City and is on pace to break City’s Premier League points record, but Liverpool is coming off a second uncharacteristically sluggish performance in a row, on Sunday.  They did pick up a 2-0 win at Anfield against Aston Villa, but it was far from a perfect game.  The Reds had 72 per cent ball possession in the first half, but somehow only managed a single shot attempt on target in that time.  Sadio Mane and Curtis Jones eventually found the back of the net for Liverpool, late in the second half, but it was a sloppy game that further exposes Liverpool’s diminishing form since clinching the Premier League title.

Liverpool has outscored Brighton 13-2 and won all five matches against them, dating to 2017.  Mohamed Salah’s 17 goals on the season puts him fourth in league scoring, four goals behind Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.  Salah will need to find his touch if Liverpool wants to break the Premier League point’s record of 100, set by Manchester City in the 2017-18 season.  Picking up 11 points in the last five games of the season would see Liverpool as only the second team to ever crack 100 points in a single Premier League season.
