Both headed to the knockout round, the Czech Republic and England will finish the group stage on Tuesday at Wembley Stadium in London.  The Czech Republic leads Group D thanks to goal differential and battled Croatia to a 1-1- draw in their last match.  England couldn’t solve bitter rivals Scotland in a 0-0 draw their last time out.  A win or a draw will win Group D for the Czechs, while England needs a win to take the group.

England is a -172 favourite to win on the soccer odds, with the Czech Republic at +580.  A draw is at +245.

Czech Republic vs. England Betting Odds

A low scoring game is favoured in this match with the Under 2.5 goals at -156 and the Over at +122.  England jumps to -588 on ‘draw no bet’, with the Czech Republic at +350.  English star Harry Kane is a +340 favourite to net the match’s first goal and he’s +110 to score anytime.  At +420, the favoured exact score in the match is a 2-0 win for England.

One of these teams is going to win Group D.  Despite being ahead on goal differential, the Czech Republic is +125 to win the group, while England is -175.  England is +769 to win the European Championship and the Czechs are +7840.

Czech Republic

The 2018 World Cup runners-up are in a great position.  It’s mathematically impossible for them to finish lower than third in Group D and they’ll actually win the group as long as they don’t lose to England.  Patrik Schick’s penalty goal beat Dominik Livakovic in the Czech’s last match, but Croatia answered back two minutes later and that was as far as things went.  Even without the win against Croatia, a worst-case-scenario for the Czech Republic is finishing the group stage as one of the best third-placed teams.  Regardless of what happens against England, the Czechs are set to reach the knockout round for just the fourth time as an independent nation.

Outside of a bloodied Schick, which led to the penalty goal against Croatia, the Czech Republic look fairly healthy headed into the final group stage match.  Schick is fine after the incident and he’s tied with Cristiano Ronaldo for the tournament leads in goals, with three.  There’s a chance Alex Kral could replace Tomas Holes in midfield, but it would be tough to see this team make any major adjustments at this point.

The Czechs have the momentum in this game.  They’ve had a great tournament and the roster looks just as strong, if not stronger, than the 2018 World Cup team.  If the Czech Republic is going to win this game, look for Schick to be the difference.

England

It’s concerning to see how England performed at home in a rivalry game against a much weaker Scottish side in their last match.  Kane hasn’t looked like himself in this tournament and that’s troubling considering England needs to win on Tuesday to win the group.  A draw is enough to clinch a spot in the knockout round, but realistically the Three Lions should move on either way.  It’s still tough to say what team England could face in the next round, but finishing second in Group D actually might give them the more favourable draw.  The winner of this group will face the runners-up of the group of death, which would be powerhouses France, Germany or Portugal.  This might be one match they don’t mind dropping points in.

After the poor outing against Scotland, it’s time for Gareth Southgate to make changes.  It makes sense to put Harry Maguire in the starting XI for this game.  The Manchester United defender hasn’t played since May because of an ankle injury, but with the injury reportedly behind him, now’s the time to get him some game action, not the knockout round.  Kane has struggled, but it would be drastic to see the captain and most decorated forward dropped from the rotation.  We could, however, see someone like Jack Grealish, Jadon Sancho or Jordan Henderson challenge for a spot in the lineup.

Fans have been clear and vocal that they’re not happy with England’s performance.  Southgate is under tremendous pressure to secure a win and provide some confidence in this squad.  This team is too talented for the way they’ve performed and Kane especially is due to breakout.  It’s tough to see England not winning this match.
