Croatia vs. Spain Prediction: Euro 2020 Betting Odds

The Croatians have gone from 2018 World Cup runners-up to last-minute elimination round qualifier. They are hefty underdogs on the soccer odds at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen against a Spanish side that played solid defence but still won just one of its three Group E games.

Spain is installed at -184 for this match and is still a top-five play in the futures odds at +742 despite settling for a pair of draws in Group E play. They’re fortunate to have drawn a first-round elimination match against a Croatian side (+470) that needed a 3-1 road victory over an undermanned Scottish side to advance. The 90-minute draw for this game is priced at +295, and might draw some interest given Spain’s draw-happy ways so far.

The U2.5 for Monday’s Round of 16 encounter is installed at -134, while the Over is set at +105. Two of Croatia’s three group stage games came in below the total, with that win over Scotland halting a four-game Under streak overall. Spain was also on a solid Under streak, having finished under the number in three straight international contests before handing Slovakia a stunning 5-0 defeat in their final game of group stage competition.

It isn’t enough for Croatia that they struggled to reach the Round of 16 – now, they’ll be forced to try and advance without the services of one of their most skilled players. Forward Ivan Perisic is out of action after testing positive for COVID-19; his absence is a significant blow to a team that will need to be at its best offensively against a stout Spanish defence. Expect Ante Rebic to line up in Perisic’s spot, alongside Nikola Vlasic and either Bruno Petkovic or Andrej Kramaric.

Spain

The Spanish still have high hopes in this tournament – but they’re going to need more from striker Alvaro Morata if they hope to compete with the big guns. Morata has one goal through Spain’s first three games, but also has a humiliating penalty kick miss on his resume. He’ll likely feature up front once again, flanked by the talented Pablo Sarabia and Dani Olmo; bettors might want to consider taking the Morata anytime goal (+160) given his added motivation to convert.
