Canada vs. Ukraine Betting Analysis

Saturday afternoon’s matchup at BMO Field marks just the second all-time meeting between Canada and Ukraine. Canada was forced to settle for a 2-2 draw in their lone previous date with Ukraine in a 2010 international friendly in Kyiv. Team Canada has emerged as a reliable in recent matches played in Toronto, compiling a 6-1-2 win-draw-loss record while keeping clean sheets on three occasions. However, the Canadians have failed to maintain that momentum when playing in the month of June, going 2-3-4 in nine outings. Ukraine arrives in Canada after narrowly avoiding relegation in UEFA Nations league action. The Blue and Yellow appeared in control while rolling to a decisive 3-1 victory over Belgium but followed up with a 3-0 loss at the hands of the Red Devils, denying them their first three-match win streak since November 2023. Overall, Ukraine has gone a respectable 7-4-5 in 16 matches across all competitions since the beginning of 2024 and have kept clean sheets four times pver that stretch.

Canada

Canada will be without superstar Alphonso Davies for their two upcoming matches, as he continues his recovery from an ACL injury. The Bayern Munich star defender has been a key contributor for the national squad at both ends of the pitch but has been limited in international action since last year. Cyle Larin is expected to surpass Milan Borjan for seventh in all-time caps when he makes his 80th international appearance on Saturday. The former team Canada captain played a key role in Canada’s return to the FIFA World Cup in 2022 and has potted 32 career goals in international play but none so far this year. Jonathan David remains the biggest scoring threat on this club. The Lille forward potted two goals and two assists during Canada’s march to third place in this year’s Nations League and has bulged the twine in each of his past two appearances at BMO Field.

Ukraine

Ukraine’s recent Nations League win over Belgium was one of the biggest victories in the history of the national side. There subsequent defeat cost them a chance to be promoted in UEFA Nations league play but should still provide this squad with a much-needed boost of confidence heading into Canadian Shield play. Even with their recent loss, Ukraine have allowed just seven total goals over their past six matches across all competitions. However, a lack of consistent offensive production remains a concern, with the club only scoring seven times in six matches. Vladislav Vanat, who plays his club soccer with Dynamo Kyiv was the only player to score two goals in Nations League play. However, all eyes should be on 22-year-old Georgiy Sudakov. The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder was rewarded with just one goal despite leading Ukraine by a wide margin with 13 shots in Nations League play but could be ready to bust out after scoring 13 goals during the recent Ukrainian Premier League campaign.

Prediction: Canada 2, Ukraine 1
