Brazil vs. Switzerland Betting Analysis

Brazil v Switzerland

  • Brazil -262
  • Draw +351
  • Switzerland +700

The South American giants and the small European nation have met relatively often. More noteworthy is that Brazil’s record is not illustrious. In nine contests, they’ve earned the spoils four three, drawn four, and knelt in defeat twice. The last time these countries squared off was at the 2018 tournament when it ended in a 1-1. It would seem as if the Swiss aren’t afraid of the Brazilians.

Even though some of the more recent World Cups haven’t ended like Brazil would like, the fact is that the group stage poses no issues for them. Their worst finish in the past fifty-six years (yes, 56), was 11th in 1966. Moreover, their goal differential is typically comfortable. In 2010 it was +3 despite one draw. In 2014 it was +5 despite one draw. Finally, in 2018 it was +4 despite one draw (against the Swiss). They’re already at +2, so there’s room to cause more damage.

Switzerland’s group stage performances aren’t all that much worse than that of their counterparts. They don’t go nearly as deep into the tournament as Brazil, but they get out of the group with regularity, having done so at three of the past four World Cups (the failure being in 2010). If they can hold onto something, they’ve scored at least one goal in the past seven group stage games, going back to 2014. Playing Brazil, goals will be essential.

Brazil

For a while against Serbia, it looked as though the underdog Europeans might stand a chance at nullifying the “joga bonito” attack.

As the second half evolved, slowly but surely the men in yellow showed what they can do when opponents give them an inch. The first sign came when Casemiro rattled a thunderous shot off the right post from a spectacular distance in the 59th minute. It was barely two minutes later when Vinícius Júnior swooped in a shot from the left side that the keeper rejected, but Richarlison was there to pot in the rebound. That was efficiency. What came next was class. Once again coming from the left, Vini Jr sent a quick ball to Richarlison who controlled with his right, twirled around, and volleyed a shot with the same leg. A stunning piece of football beauty that stands as the goal of the tournament for now.

Huge news: Neymar Jr. will miss the game with an ankle injury.

Switzerland

The Swiss are close to punching their ticket to the round of 16, something they’re very familiar with. In their way are the world’s football giants. They’ll want to do well rather than depend on the final group game because Serbia are not to be underestimated.

They head into this game looking decent. The 1-0 victory against Cameroon was not necessarily an example of Swiss efficiency. There were significant portions during which one could make a case that the Cameroonians deserved a goal. Keeper Yann Sommer was busier than what manager Murat Yakin probably wished, and there were a couple of other moments that had Swiss hearts palpitate that much quicker. Nevertheless, the squad has success when attacking from the wing. They’ll need it.
