Arsenal vs Manchester City Premier League Odds, Prediction
This is a long-awaited matchup between the two clubs most envision as potential Premier League champions come May. The Gunners are still first, but their lead has slimmed to three points.
Pep Guardiola’s City squad is +150 on the Premier League odds, Arsenal +175, and a draw is +224. The over-under for goals scored is 2.5, which makes sense given the strong attacking units each side sports.
Arsenal vs Manchester City Betting Analysis
We offered a preview of an Arsenal-Man City contest not long ago when the clubs faced off in the fourth round of the FA Cup. In that article, we highlighted how the only recent success the North London side had earned against City’s prowess was in fact in the domestic cup tournament. Lo and behold, Manchester took that contest 1-0, thus knocking Arsenal out. Now, they hope to give the Gunners’ title ambitions a good knock as well.
As mentioned, Mikel Arteta has seen his men play a bit under par in recent weeks. Ironically, the ills began with that FA Cup elimination. January signings Leandro Trossard and Jorginho have been given some playing time off the bench, with Trossard scoring Arsenal’s lone goal last weekend versus Brentford. Grabiel Jesus remains out, as he has been since Qatar 2022.
Manchester City is doing all it can to defy the odds and the world. Anyone who follows club football knows that the franchise has some serious fair play allegations aimed in its direction. It would seem that City were less than truthful about their bookkeeping for a few years, which may or may not have allowed them to acquire rather expensive talent without penalties. Be that as it may, the players on the pitch have games to win, and they did just that on Sunday by thrashing Aston Villa 3-1. The cheers in the Etihad were practically defiant.
Arsenal
The result against Brentford came at the worst possible time. All competitions included, the Gunners had failed to walk off the pitch as winners two games in a row, and had suffered defeat at Everton the prior weekend. Everton, it should be highlighted, is fighting to keep its place in the Premier League and had just sacked its manager. In fairness, Brentford is a better side, and they displayed intent on more than one occasion at the Emirates. Even Trossard’s opening goal that got the crowd going in the 66th minute didn’t deter the visitors. Ivan Toney levelled the terms in the 74th when the Gunners dealt poorly with a set piece.
Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah have done admirably in Gabriel Jesus’ absence, but now is the time for Trossard to play a bigger role. The back four did a solid job against Man City in the FA Cup, but Erling Haaland, to no one’s surprise, caused issues.
Manchester City
The naysayers said the campaign was slipping way from Guardiola’s grasp. Murmurs of dressing room angst went public. They suffered defeats to Manchester United and Spurs in a span of a few weeks.
Aston Villa paid a visit on Sunday. Manager Unai Emery had his men playing much better football as of late (despite defeat to Leicester the week before), and some thought a point was attainable. By the time the players retreated for the halftime break, the hosts had emphatically demonstrated that their claim to the top spot was far from over. Rodri opened the tally with a fourth-minute header from a corner that surprised Villa’s keeper. The next breakthrough was courtesy of some inspiring aggressiveness by Haaland deep in Villa’s end. He pounced on a loose ball and low-crossed to Ilkay Gündogan for a highlight-worthy 2-0 advantage. From there City coasted to a 3-1 win.
