2018 World Cup Betting Predictions: South Korea vs. Germany Odds

The Germans could see their tournament end if they don’t take care of South Korea on Wednesday. Oddsmakers don’t think they’ll have much trouble.

Germany’s backline is in shambles because of injury to Mats Hummels and a suspension for Jerome Boateng. Joachim Low will likely turn Niklas Sule and Antonio Rudiger for his centre back pairing against South Korea. Both players are decent players but certainly not world-class defenders like Boateng and Hummels.

South Korea are +144 to score one goal and +623 to net two goals against Germany. There could be some value in this market if the German backups underperform.

Expect Heung-min Son to be the danger man again for the Taegeuk Warriors. The Tottenham Spurs forward netted South Korea’s lone goal against Mexico and is listed at +363 to score at anytime during Wednesday’s match.

South Korea

The Taegeuk Warriors can still advance to the last 16 despite losing both of their first two group stage matches. All they have to do is the defending World Cup champions by more than two goals and see Mexico top Sweden in the other Group F match on Wednesday. Oddsmakers list South Korea as +4000 longshots to qualify for the knockout stages.

Germany

Marco Reus is making the most of his first World Cup experience. The Borussia Dortmund forward has been a regular on the German national team for the better part of the decade but missed the 2014 World Cup championship in Brazil and the disappointment in France at the Euros in 2016 because of injuries.

He’s finally healthy and a key part of Low’s starting 11. He scored Germany’s first goal against Sweden and assisted on Kroos’ match winner. Sports Interaction lists him at +102 to score anytime during Wednesday’s game against South Korea.

South Korea vs. Germany Prediction

Germany 3, South Korea 1

Germany’s possession game finally pays off with a flood of goals but their shaky backline won’t help Manuel Neur keep a clean sheet.
