Toronto FC vs. New York Red Bulls: MLS Preview, Odds and Prediction
The New York Red Bulls surprisingly suffered their first loss of the season to a bottom-table team, and will now have to recoup on away grounds against ninth-place Toronto this weekend to stay afloat. Tune into another grindy Eastern Conference showdown between the Red Bulls and Toronto at 1 pm ET this Saturday.
Toronto FC vs. New York Red Bulls MLS Odds and Betting Trends
Out of 37 fixtures (one Leagues Cup matchup) between the two Eastern squads, the Red Bulls come away with 25 wins to Toronto’s 10. Toronto FC has not been able to secure a win against the New York side for 14 straight matches, coming only as close as a 1-1 draw in their last meeting in the previous MLS regular season in June 2025. Both teams have scored in their last three straight meetings against each other, while four of their last six matches saw three goals or more.
While Toronto hasn’t outscored the Red Bulls in a match since 2019, this weekend could be their shot as they come in as +140 small home favourites over their opponents on the MLS odds board. The Red Bulls’ 3-0 shutout loss to last-place Montreal stumped many onlookers, pushing their likelihood of winning this away match to +165. Last matchup at BMO Field in June 2025 resulted in a draw, which could happen tonight, at +240 odds. Over 2.5 goals (-125) is more likely than the Under, which adds up given these two teams’ history.
New York Red Bulls
The Red Bulls now have a -1 GD after being completely shut out against Montreal last weekend. Captain Emil Forsberg’s side, unfortunately, allowed an 8′ penalty and a 44′ goal right before the halfway mark to suffer a two-goal deficit for the entire second half. Even with New York dominating in shots (15), shots on target (seven), possession (64%), and 11 corners, they couldn’t break through before allowing a third goal in the 68′. However, the Red Bulls are still one of four teams in the East with two wins, allowing them to hold fourth for the time being.
Forward Julian Hall still holds the only goals (three) for the team this season and enters BMO Field ready to score at +205 odds. Midfielder Adri Mehmeti has set Hall up twice so far this year, and could assist his teammates tonight at +550. In addition to Hall, Eric Choupo-Moting (+175) and Joshua Sargent (+210) are more than ready to break the ice this season.
Toronto FC
Toronto will certainly be riding high after defeating last year’s second-place FC Cincinnati 1-0 after Daniel Salloi struck in the 85th minute to seal the team’s first win of the season. The Canadian side was mostly outplayed, 10 shots to Cincinnati’s 15, and only saw the ball 46% of the time, but they made the most of their opportunities with 70% of their shots goalward. Now they play at home for the first time this year, and a win could get them out of 9th place and help edge them towards a positive GD.
Djordje Mihailovic comes in as the team’s highest goalscorer for the matchup at +245 odds after attaining just one of the team’s three total goals. Emilio Aristizabal is next up, set to score at a +230 price, along with his Hungarian forward teammate, Daniel Salloi, the most likely to fire off 2+ shots at +180 odds, potentially earning his second goals of the season at +270 as well.
MLS Prediction: Who Will Win Toronto FC vs. New York Red Bulls?
In the latest news, Toronto recently rallied while the Red Bulls faltered, but the Canadian side still allowed six goals this season before this matchup, and were lucky enough to hold on against Cincinnati. On the flip side, the Red Bulls were extremely unlucky not to even bag a consolation goal in their last match, with attacking players Forsberg, Hall, and Choupo-Moting always showcasing lethal offensive capability.
Personally, I think a safe choice would be the Red Bulls +0.5 spread at -185, given the recent circumstances and how early it is in the season to tell which team is more dominant. However, I would take both teams to score at -160 odds, considering that’s been the case for this fixture in the last three straight games.
