Toronto FC vs. Austin FC MLS odds and prediction
Toronto FC, unbeaten (3-0-2) in its last five matches, takes on Austin FC, which is winless (0-3-2) in its last five games, at BMO Field on Saturday at 1:00 PM ET.
Toronto has moved up to sixth in the East, thanks largely to its success at home, where it is 2-0-2 this season. Coach Robin Fraser’s side benefited from an own goal in a 1-1 draw with Cincinnati last week.
The week before, Richie Laryea and Josh Sargent scored as the team overcame a two-goal deficit in the second half for a 3-2 triumph over the Colorado Rapids. Sargent added an assist as the team benefited from another own goal.
Austin is currently going in the other direction. In addition to its five-match winless streak in MLS, the club dropped a 2-1 decision to USL Championship side Louisville City FC on Tuesday.
Last weekend, Myrto Uzini scored in the 85th minute, but it was too little, too late in a 2-1 setback at home to the LA Galaxy.
These teams met only twice in their limited histories, with the home side emerging victorious both times.
Toronto FC vs. Austin FC Odds and Betting Trends
Toronto is at -112 on the MLS odds board, with the draw at +250 and Austin FC the underdog at +310.
The over/under sits at 2.5 goals, with the over slightly favoured at -106. The under is listed at -118.
Toronto FC
Toronto has quickly righted the ship after conceding three goals in each of its first two matches of the season, both defeats. The Reds have tightened up significantly, allowing just five goals over their last five matches.
The team has spread the wealth offensively with star attacking midfielder Djordje Mihailovic out with a pelvic stress fracture. Daniel Salloi has two goals and an assist, and Laryea has a goal and two assists. Salloi is the only Toronto player to score twice.
Sargent has provided stability up top since his arrival from Europe, and new centre-back Walker Zimmerman has proven his worth, although he is questionable tomorrow with a nagging calf.
Austin FC
Coach Nico Estevez’s Austin side has scored just eight goals while conceding 11 through seven matches, winning just one. They are winless (0-2-1) on the road.
Like Toronto, nobody has emerged as Austin’s primary scoring threat. Uzini leads the way with two goals, and Facundo Torres (3 assists) is doing his best to create throughout the pitch, but to little avail.
That creativity will be stunted even further with the temporary loss of midfielder Dani Pereira, who left in the 36th minute of the Louisville match with a hamstring injury.
MLS Prediction: Who Will Win Toronto FC vs. Austin FC?
Everything points to a Toronto win at home. Their form is stronger right now, and they’re riding a five-game unbeaten streak that has established confidence in close matches, especially with three one-goal victories as part of this unbeaten run. Nothing points to Austin shaking this current slide, especially not away from home. Look for Toronto to take a 2-1 victory at home.
