Real Salt Lake vs. Inter Miami MLS Preview and Prediction

Inter Miami and Real Salt Lake clash as the East’s second place takes on the West’s fifth, leading for one heck of an exciting football match Wednesday night. Both teams enter this matchup off big wins, so prepare for a dramatic result at America’s First Field, with kickoff set for 9:30 p.m. ET.

Real Salt Lake vs. Inter Miami MLS Odds and Betting Trends

In their first and only ever game against each other in the February 2024 season opener, Inter Miami swiped a 2-0 win at Chase Stadium with goals from Robert Taylor and Diego Gomez. Anything could happen in this one, but expect the hosts to come out swinging as they look to take down last year’s MLS Cup winners.

Salt Lake is indeed the +120 home favourite on the MLS odds here with four wins in their last five MLS matches, but Miami comes in close at +175 odds to win. The Herons currently sit in second place in the East and hold a nine-game undefeated run. A draw is available at +285 odds, while under 3.5 goals comes in at -140.

Real Salt Lake

Real Salt Lake is having a respectable start to the season with a 5-1-1 record after seven games played. The team’s only loss came on the opening weekend to arguably the best team in the MLS this season, the Vancouver Whitecaps, while their only draw to San Diego FC on March 22 was flipped with their most recent 4-2 win against them on April 18. With a +6 goal difference and a game in hand, Real Salt Lake is in a great spot to jump into the top three in the West, but they’ll have to withstand some heavy firepower coming from the Herons here.

Sergi Solans has hit the ground running this season with five goals in seven games, including two goals and an assist against San Diego last Saturday, as he comes into this one set to score at +170 odds. Teammate Victor Olatunji enters the turf ready to score at +175, after netting one in only four games. Along with those two, Aiden Herzarkhani finds himself priced at +210 odds to net a goal anytime, with two to his name already this season.

Inter Miami

Inter Miami continues their undefeated streak since the first matchup of the season against LAFC, but they have dropped some points with three draws in the mix. Their game against the Colorado Rapids was a true test of resilience, as the team led 2-0 in the first half only to give up two goals in the second. Lionel Messi was the man-of-the-match and hero of the day, scoring a 79th-minute game-winner to seal the victory, despite the Herons being outshot by the highly offensive Rapids 10-5 and out-possessed with just 40 per cent of the ball.

From results like this, it’s hard to shake Miami even in complete dominance, as players like Messi and Luis Suarez can make a difference on the scoreline at any moment. Messi comes in at -110 odds to score as he averages a goal a game with seven in seven games, including two in his last match. German Berterame (one goal last game) and Suarez follow their captain’s lead, set to score anytime at +240 and +255, respectively.

MLS Prediction: Who Will Win Real Salt Lake vs. Inter Miami?

Where Miami struggles defensively, they make up for it with their creative offensive play. Even in games where they are mostly dominated possession-wise and in chances, they have clinically finished, like Messi, who can just turn the game around in the blink of an eye.

Yet, both teams are tied for the third-highest goal tally in the MLS (RSL has a game in hand), although Salt Lake boasts fewer goals allowed in fewer games. Considering they are at home tonight, but Miami aren’t by any means out of form, I’d expect both teams to score in this one, but a potential draw in the end at 2-2.
