An impactful cross-conference skirmish hits the MLS on Tuesday when Western leaders Vancouver head to Soldier Field to face Chicago Fire at 8.30 p.m. ET.

Just two wins in five MLS matches in September has allowed the chasing pack to close on the Whitecaps, who are three points clear of second-placed St. Louis and Dallas in third.

Vancouver does have a game in-hand of those two challengers and they now face a trip to Chicago, who sit fifth in the Eastern Conference and overcame Charlotte 1-0 last time out.

Chicago Fire vs. Vancouver Whitecaps MLS Odds and Betting Trends

This will be the 19th meeting between these two teams, with the Whitecaps winning eight of those contests and Chicago coming out on top five times. There have also been five draws.

Chicago won the last meeting 3-1 in March 2025 but it is Vancouver who have had the better of the recent clashes with three wins in the last five.

With Chicago at home for this one, the odds stay relatively level on the three-way moneyline, as the Fire are +180 to win and Vancouver are available at +120. The draw is set at +290.

Seven of the 10 meetings have produced at least three goals and it is +110 for there to be over 3.5 goals in this clash. It is -140 for the under.

Chicago Fire

Chicago endured a rigorous path this September, with their most recent string of games against the high-quality teams of Inter Miami (1-1), the New England Revolution (2-1 loss), and Nashville SC (3-0 loss).

However, the Fire reached their 42nd point and 12th win of the season against Charlotte after the Crown’s Luca del la Torre knocked in an own goal in the 58th minute, resulting in a 1-0 victory.

While a Fire player failed to get on the scoresheet, they still impressed in attack with 14 shots, of which nine were on target, and 57 per cent possession, showing total control on away grounds.

While the last Chicago player to score was Maren Hailee-Selassie on September 13, it would be naive to think they don’t have offensive firepower to match that of the Whitecaps.

In total, Chicago has netted 46 goals, with Hugo Cuypers (13 goals) and Haile-Selassie (eight goals) two of the club’s key threats.

Vancouver Whitecaps

The Whitecaps experienced a bumpy road for most of September, claiming just two wins out of five MLS games as they allowed the chasing pack to close in.

However, the Canadian side still boasts the second-best defence in the MLS with just 26 goals conceded and they have recorded 11 clean sheets – the most recent shutout coming in the 3-0 win over Salt Lake on September 19.

Most recently, the Whitecaps drew 3-3 at home against D.C. United in an absolute barn burner that saw both sides fire off more than 12 shots and six on target.

Brian White scored in that six-goal thriller, taking his MLS tally to 17 for the season and leaving him just one shy of his career-high of 18 he set in 2025.

Thomas Muller also netted in the draw and with nine goals and six assists to his name in the MLS this term, he is a big danger for the Whitecaps.

MLS Prediction: Who Will Win Chicago Fire vs. Vancouver Whitecaps?

With Vancouver on a three-game winning run away from home in the MLS, they look like the best bet at +120 to extend that record to four.

The Whitecaps are strong defensively, boasting 11 clean sheets, while their tally of 59 goals scored is bettered by only Inter Miami.

Given Chicago has failed to win their last two games at home, collecting just one point from a possible six, Vancouver looks capable of claiming the spoils.

Score prediction: Chicago Fire 1-2 Vancouver Whitecaps
