DC United vs. CF Montreal MLS Preview and Prediction

Matchday 15 of the MLS season features plenty of action as eighth-place DC United takes on an adjusting 12th-place CF Montreal side, all before a long World Cup break ensues this summer. If all goes well, DC could find themselves in fourth place with three points, and while Montreal does have a game in hand, a win could set them up for ninth place or higher.

Catch the final week of the MLS before the World Cup takes the stage in June, with DC vs. Montreal kicking off Saturday at 7:30 pm ET.

DC United vs. CF Montreal MLS Odds and Betting Trends

The head-to-head between the two sides is dead even, with both teams winning 11, drawing 11, and losing 11.  Montreal was the last side to win this fixture back in 2024, but in the last two meetings, they’ve drawn.

DC United takes the home favourites spot at -120 odds on the three-way moneyline, with the Canadian challengers coming in at +270, and a draw priced at +275 on the MLS odds. Under 2.5 goals (+100) are expected, given that this matchup features two teams with some of the lowest goals scored in the conference.

DC United

DC United fight in the middle of the Eastern Conference pack after going 4-5-5 so far this season, losing just one of their last five matchups. March 1 to April 18 saw the team get shutout in five of their seven MLS matches.

This month has already gone considerably better for the side, though, as they’ve posted a 2-1-1 record, only allowing six goals in four games. However, they’ll need to starkly improve their offence and finishing ability if they want to qualify for the playoffs this year, after showcasing a horrendous season last year that saw them at the bottom of the East with only 30 goals for and a -36 GD (both lowest in the MLS).

Even with the goal-scoring issues from last season, two players from the squad have contributed to 11 of the team’s 17 goals. United striker Tai Baribo leads the night for most likely to score at +125 odds after bagging seven this season. Teammate Louis Munteanu takes the pitch next to Baribo as the next highest likely goalscorer at +160, with his four goals to add to the mix.

CF Montreal

Montreal will be eager to get its record straightened up with a win this weekend, as the team has already suffered too many losses (eight) before the break. They’ve gone 1-1-1 so far in May, with steadier results than earlier this year.

The team nearly kicked off a four-game undefeated streak in all competitions this month after winning their Canadian Championship preliminary round, downing Orlando City 2-0 and drawing the Timbers 2-2, but were ultimately snuffed out in a 0-2 loss to Chicago most recently. Montreal has pulled out much better results at home this season, so playing away may be an issue for them, as they’ve only won one of their seven road matches so far. At the very least, Montreal will want to avoid being shut out for the fourth time this season while playing on away turf.

Montreal needs to protect Prince Owusu the best they can here, as the No. 9 striker has contributed to 11 of the team’s 18 league goals (six goals and five assists), making way as the team’s highest likely goalscorer of the night at +180. Daniel Rios is the squad’s next best hope to score at +275, as he’s got two to his name after 10 games so far.

MLS Prediction: Who Will Win DC United vs. CF Montreal?

More often than not in recent matchups, Prince Owusu is the man to put CF Montreal over the edge for most of these winning results. If he’s not up to par, the team’s next highest scorer, Wikelman Carmona (four goals), will have to step up. The Canadian side also has a visible trend of failing to close out matches on the road, but D.C. United may be their most fair competition as of late.

Besides Atlanta and Philadelphia, D.C. is the only other team in the conference that has a harder time scoring than Montreal. But, they’ve closed out decent results against tough competition, including Nashville and NYCFC.

If you factor in both teams’ lackluster offence, Montreal’s weaknesses on away turf, and D.C. drawing four of their last seven games, this one’s set for a 1-1 draw by the end of 90′.
