Part of this could be credited to Matt Turner’s return to his team, where the American international has stopped six shots on goal, five against Atlanta United in his last match since returning from international duty. New England looked somewhat shaky in the lead-up to the World Cup break, scoring just two goals in their final three games, allowing five, and winning just one matchup against Minnesota. Since then, though, they showcased two brilliant back-to-back home results despite one being a scoreless draw against Toronto, as they’d follow it up with a 4-1 victory over Atlanta.
Dor Turgeman is starting to shine in his second season for the Revs, scoring three goals so far, one in his last match, as he comes in as the team’s highest likely anytime goalscorer at +220 odds. Carles Gil netted two goals in both of New England’s last two victories, as he follows up Turgeman at +230 to score anytime.
CF Montreal
Unlike Turner’s impactful return to his club after the World Cup, Canada’s Samuel Piette would’ve liked to have been more impactful in Montreal’s most recent two games, where they lost to their Toronto rivals as well as Inter Miami. However, between their last three games since the restart of the MLS season, they’ve only allowed two goals, yet they’ve failed to score in those three, keeping them at 13th in the East with 10 defeats and just four wins. They will really need to enforce their counterattacking play here and incorporate Prince Owusu’s pace on the attack, as they are not a dominant team in possession or shots, which was apparent since the end of the World Cup.
Owusu has been the sole saviour for some of Montreal’s results, as the 6’3″ German forward bagged nine goals and six assists so far this season. He takes the match’s top anytime goalscoring spot at +115 odds, followed by teammate Daniel Rios (two goals) at +180.
MLS Prediction: Who Will Win CF Montreal vs. New England Revolution?
Montreal may be the favourites, but they’ve essentially got to rely on Prince Owusu, as the last time they scored in a match was a 4-4 result against DC United, where he netted a late hat trick to tie the game. The Revs will likely dominate in possession (and shots) as they have for four of their last five matchups, with players like Carles Gil commanding the midfield, and the team has many offensive options to rely on through their build-up play.
If Owusu gets shut out in this one, a Revs victory is on the table, although it’s highly likely Montreal will bag a consolation, seeing they’re at home for this one. Expect a 3-1 New England Revs victory at +195 on the road here, which hits both the over 2.5 (-140) and both teams to score (-175).
