Real Madrid vs. Getafe La Liga Preview and Prediction

Matchweek 26 of La Liga takes off with plenty of thrilling matchups that could see a twist to the standings. Getafe challenges the mighty Real Madrid, with both sides desperate for points in their own context. The Royal Whites enter a “must-win” scenario for the rest of the season to catch Barcelona, while Getafe will want to avoid hovering in the relegation zone as they currently sit just five points clear.

Real Madrid vs. Getafe La Liga Odds and Betting Trends

Real Madrid have won the last eight straight fixtures against Getafe since April 2022. The visitors have only ever won six out of their 41 meetings, with four draws in the mix. Home or away, four of Madrid’s last eight victories, including the last two in a row, were 1-0 scorelines, with Los Blancos allowing just two goals in the last 10 derbies.

Real Madrid are only second to win the La Liga this season at +110 on the La Liga odds behind Barcelona. Unfortunately for Getafe, they are far from probable to win the trophy this year, and even find themselves as major +950 underdogs in this one. Madrid are heavy -340 home favourites with the under 2.5 expected to hit at -135.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid will be licking their chops for this one after giving up first place to their long-time rivals, FC Barcelona, after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Osasuna, marking just their third loss of the season. The team has been relatively inconsistent for their own standard this season, exiting the Copa del Rey Round of 16 in January. However, they still can win La Liga under the right circumstances, and recently progressed to the Round of 16 in the Champions League with a 2-1 second leg win over Benfica on Wednesday. Lucky for Los Blancos, Getafe aren’t particularly daunting opponents, and if Madrid continues their trend of about two goals per game in their last five La Liga fixtures, they should be OK to win this one.

Always count on Kylian Mbappe tucking away a goal or two, as he leads the Spanish league with 23 goals in 23 games, as well as the Champions League with 13 goals in nine games played, although he’s been nursing some knee issues recently. Vinicius Junior has also gotten his confidence back as he enters newfound form, scoring his ninth goal of the season in the last game against Osasuna, while showcasing four goals in the last three straight La Liga games and two straight UCL games. The Royal Whites also have one of the hardest defences to crack, allowing the fewest goals in the league this season (21), which can largely be credited to Thibaut Courtois, helping shut out teams four times in the last 10 games in all competitions.

Getafe

Getafe only has La Liga to worry about for the rest of the season, which should help them stay out of relegation. They’ve racked up two wins in their last five games, with a 2-1 victory over third-place Villarreal on February 14, although they’ve struggled to score in most games, with just seven goals in their last 10 La Liga matches. This puts them at 20 goals for this season, the second-lowest goal count ahead of only 20th-place Real Oviedo.

Only Mauro Arambarri leads his team in goals with five already, while Luis Milla boasts eight assists so far, and the team has truly held on this season through defensive discipline. If Mauro Arambarri doesn’t add to his tally, the game may be in the hands of goalkeeper David Soria to keep this one close.

La Liga Prediction: Who Will Win Real Madrid vs. Getafe?

Real Madrid very rarely loses this matchup and even takes home advantage here. When you consider the fact that they’ve lost once to Getafe in the last 13 years, with only two draws sandwiched in between, a Real Madrid win should be a given. On top of that, Getafe are struggling this season, specifically in goal scoring, which is something Madrid really thrives in. With that in mind, expect a 2-0 victory for the hosts.
