Mexico 2026 FIFA World Cup Team Betting Odds and Preview
Mexico hopes to final make a breakthrough on the big stage when they kick off their 2026 FIFA World Cup schedule later this week. The Tricolor are hoping to enjoy the benefits of playing on home turf and a favourable draw into Group A, as they look to build on back-to-back CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament victories in 2023 and 2025. However, the Mexicans still face the challenge of overcoming a middling track record at the World Cup, where they have failed to advance past the round of 16 in eight tourney appearances since their march to the quarter-finals back in 1986.

Mexico World Cup Group A Betting Odds
The Tricolor sit atop the odds to win Group as -125 favourites and are a short -1250 bet to advance to the round of 32. However, they sit off the pace as a +300 wager to return to the quarters for the first time in 40 years, a +2000 bet to reach the final, and sit well down the World Cup championship odds at +6500.
Mexico World Cup News and Notes
While Mexico sports lengthy odds on the World Cup futures, they get set for this year’s tourney after enjoying some recent success in major international tournaments. The squad has suffered just one total defeat while rolling to consecutive Gold Cup tournament wins and has reached the Gold Cup final in eight of 10 appearances since 2007.
The Tricolor also raised the trophy at the 2025 CONCACAF Nations League while compiling a 3-0-1 win-draw-loss record and have outscored opponents by a wide 15-2 combined margin while going undefeated in eight matches across all competitions so far this year. That run includes a trio of decisive victories over Serbia, Australia, and Ghana in recent pre-tournament contests, highlighted by a 5-1 rout of the Orlovi on June 4.
But perhaps most important is the bump this side has received from being the host country at past World Cups, claiming best-ever quarter-final finishes in 1970 and 1986.
Mexico Players to Watch
Despite the positive, the stars must still align for Mexico to take the next step, placing additional pressure on the squad’s biggest stars. Raúl Jiménez is still the man to watch. The Wanderers striker gives Mexico experience, penalty-box presence, and likely penalty-taking value, which likely makes him the best bet among the Mexicans on the World Cup goal scorer odds. Jiménez was key to Mexico’s recent Gold Cup success and is the top El Tri player on odds to lead the tourney in goals at +5000.
Edson Álvarez anchors Mexico’s veteran core, and potted the tournament winner for Mexico at least year’s Gold Cup.
At 40, Guillermo Ochoa is set to appear in his sixth World Cup. The talented goalkeeper is a proven tournament performer, but he looks likely to give way to Guadalajara star Raul Rangel, who has made eight appears with the national side this year.
The younger names give Mexico its upside. Gilberto Mora, Obed Vargas, Armando González, Santiago Giménez, and others represent the “fresh legs” side of Aguirre’s balancing act. FourFourTwo lists the final squad with a veteran spine of Ochoa, Jesús Gallardo, Álvarez, Jiménez, César Montes, Johan Vásquez, Alexis Vega, Santiago Giménez, and Julián Quiñones.
Mexico Key Injuries and Selection Notes
The main injury concern is Santiago Giménez, who recently battled an ankle injury but recovered in time to make the final squad. Giménez is one of Mexico’s higher-upside scoring options, but his injury history make him a trickier top-goalscorer bet. Hirving Lozano and Henry Martín missed the final squad, removing two familiar attackers from the lineup.
Álvarez had also dealt with an ankle issue before the tournament cycle, but he made the final squad and remains central to the team’s structure.
