Canada set to unveil FIFA World Cup roster Friday at 7 p.m. ET
It’s time.

Injury bug
The final roster will be trimmed down from the 32 players who were invited to attend a training camp in Charlotte, N.C., which started earlier this week. Six players from that training camp won’t make the final World Cup roster.
Health is a major concern for Marsch and the Canadian team. The biggest question mark is captain Alphonso Davies, who is in doubt for Canada’s opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12 as he recovers from a hamstring injury. While Davies’ spot on the roster isn’t in jeopardy, his availability and limitations could factor into other roster decisions for Marsch.
There are several other injury concerns for Canada as forward Promise David, wingers Ali Ahmed and Jacob Shaffelburg and defenders Richie Laryea, Alfie Jones and Luc de Fougerolles are all coming off injuries suffered playing for their club teams.
Positive update
It’s not all doom and gloom, however, as earlier this week, defender Moise Bombito said he was “100 per cent” and that he expects to be in the lineup for Canada’s opening match.
Bombito, 26, plays for Ligue 1 side Nice. He hasn’t taken the pitch since breaking his leg in a 2-2 draw against Monaco on Oct. 5.
Goalkeepers locked in
One position that won’t be a surprise is the goaltenders. Marsch only named Maxime Crepeau, Dayne St. Clair and Owen Goodman to the training camp roster, so they will all make the final squad.
However, the battle to be Canada’s starting goalkeeper is still on. Crepeau and St. Clair are scheduled to split time in Canada’s pre-tournament friendly against Uzbekistan in Edmonton on Monday. Canada will also face Ireland in a final World Cup tune-up match on June 5 in Montreal.
Canada World Cup schedule and odds
Canada is drawn into Group B for this year’s World Cup. Les Rouges will open the tournament on June 12 in Toronto against Bosnia and Herzegovina before travelling to Vancouver to play Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24.
The Canadians have the second-shortest odds to win the group at +225 and they are -450 to reach the knockout stage for the first time ever. Playing in just their third World Cup, Canada is still looking for their first tournament victory.
