Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Monchengladbach Bundesliga Preview and Prediction

Bayern Munich are well on their way to a second straight Bundesliga crown, and 13th in 14 years. The club only need 20 points from their remaining 10 league matches.

Their upcoming fixture, at home against relegation-threatened Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET, should pose little threat to deterring them.

The Bavarians are unbeaten in seven matches across all competitions, and 4-1-1 in their last six league contests. That includes a 3-2 victory over second-place Borussia Dortmund last week.

Harry Kane recorded a brace, but it was a Joshua Kimmich winner in the 87th minute that sent Bayern 11 points clear. Kane scored two goals in each of his past four league matches, and he tallied 10 overall in six matches in February. He is all set to win his third straight Bundesliga Golden Boot with 30 goals on the season. However, after suffering a knock to his calf, he will not feature against Monchengladbach.

The Foals are 1-3-2 in their last six league matches, but did take a 1-0 decision over Union Berlin last week, thanks to a penalty from Kevin Diks in the 94th minute.

Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Monchengladbach odds and betting trends

Unsurprisingly, Bayern are heavy -550 favourites to pick up the victory on the Bundesliga odds, while Borussia Monchengladbach are available at +1100 and the draw is +750. Munich have won each of the past five meetings between the two clubs, posting clean sheets while scoring six total goals in the last three, including a 3-0 decision on the road in October.

The Bavarians are unbeaten in their last three at home against Monchengladbach, who have scored just 27 goals and own a -12 goal-differential in league play this season. The Foals are also 0-4-2 in their last six road matches.

Bayern Munich

The big news for this match is the absence of Kane, who suffered a knock and is being kept out  to preserve him for next week’s Champions League Round of 16 match against Atalanta.

Ironically enough, Kane did not make the scoresheet in October’s triumph over the Foals. Munich, on pace to destroy the Bundesliga’s single-season record for goals scored, should be just fine without him.

Luis Diaz has 13 goals and 10 assists, and Michael Olise has 10 goals and 16 assists in league play. Along with Kimmich, who has six assists, they offer more than enough competence in the final third to easily add to the Bavarians’ 88 goals in league play.

Manuel Neuer has been out of goal since suffering a calf injury against Werder Bremen. His stand-in, Jonas Urbig, surrendered two goals each in victories over Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The team is slouching a bit defensively, having allowed 10 goals in its last eight matches overall. Munich have failed to record a clean sheet in its last seven matches at Allianz Arena.

Borussia Monchengladbach

The Foals would love to steal a point, especially as they sit just three points outside the 16th-place playoff position, but this would be a tall task for them. Monchengladbach will be without midfielder Yannick Engelhardt, who is suspended. Harris Tabakovic, the Foals’ leading goalscorer with 11 this season, will feature, but he has just two goals in the past eight games.

Who will win Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Monchengladbach?

This is an easy one. The only questions here are how many goals will Bayern score and whether they will keep the clean sheet. Look for the answer to both questions to be formidable, and expect the Bavarians to inch closer to another Bundesliga title with a 4-0 home win.
