More than Golf? Tiger at the Masters

Zany odds set on what Tiger will do when he returns to golf at the US Masters next week.

AUGUSTA, MARCH 31ST. A leading online sportsbook has posted odds on what else Tiger Woods might do when he makes his much anticipated return to professional golf at the US Masters next weekend.

“We always post odds on all golf tournaments, and people love to bet on golf,” says Frank Doyle, a spokesman for Sports Interaction, the first online sportsbook licensed and regulated in North America. “But because Tiger’s return is such a media event, we thought we’d have some extra fun this time.”

Are they serious? “No, not really,” says Doyle. “Our core business is the business of US Masters golf betting, of course. But there’s been so much hype about Tiger Woods’ return to golf we thought we’d try to lighten the atmosphere a little. He’s going to play golf. He made a mistake, and then he made it again and again and again, but come on. Nobody died, nobody went to war.”

How will Tiger do in the light of all the distractions? “Tiger is the ante-post favorite with Sports Interaction,” says Doyle. “He’s 7/2, ahead of Mickelson at 15/2 and then 16/1 the field. To be honest, going around Amen Corner is going to be a piece of cake compared to what he’s been going through lately. First time the pressure’s been off in half a year.”
