Winnipeg Jets 2021-22 Predictions, Betting Odds and Season Preview
With a rejuvenated blue line, the Winnipeg Jets head back to the Central Division with a postseason spot on their mind.
Looking Back
The Jets were fighting for the top spot in last year’s North Division throughout the first half of the season but struggled to find any kind of consistency. That consistently finally arrived in the last month of the season, but not in the way they hoped. Winnipeg fell apart, dropping nine of their final 12 regular-season games. They ended the year 30-23-3 and bettors made bank betting the spread as they covered in 35 of their 56 games. Winnipeg left much to be desired on home ice, with a 13-15 record.
After the Jets swept the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the playoffs, the Montreal Canadiens gave them a taste of their own medicine, outing them in four games.
Key Acquisitions and Moves
Winnipeg’s new and improved blue line will feature two new faces in the top-four, as Nate Schmidt and Brenden Dillon both joined the fold this summer. Dillon, a Stanley Cup champion, and Schmidt both add much needed experience and grit on the back-end. They can also both chip in a bit offensively as potential 20+ points players.
The notable subtractions from the squad include defencemen Tucker Poolman, Jordie Benn and Derek Forbort, while forward Mason Appleton was snagged by Seattle in the expansion draft.
NHL Betting Odds – Futures, Props
The Peg open at +2900 to win the Stanley Cup this year, just behind Washington (+2800) and Minnesota (+2700). The Central Division is tough with Colorado being the current division-favourite at -255 and Winnipeg sitting at +1100. The Jets are expected to be around the wild-card race once again, with -173 odds to make the playoffs.
The Jets have one of the NHL’s best goaltenders, Connor Hellebuyck, who is on our NHL props board twice. He is the third-favourite for the Vezina Trophy at +900, and you can get him at +3900 to win the Hart Trophy. Kyle Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers join him on that line at +5900 each. Connor is a top-10 favourite for the Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy at +1800 as well.
Winnipeg Jets 2021-22 Season Prediction
The Winnipeg Jets are in one of the tougher divisions in hockey, but their new defence looks solid, which should help their consistency issues. Keep an eye on the puckline for Jets games, as they should cover as well as they did, last year. A bet on the Jets to get into the playoffs at -173 would get you some decent return.
Hellebuyck is consistently in the Vezina conversation and with some better defence in front of him, he could run away with the award. Connor is also a dark horse for the Rocket Richard, depending on how Paul Maurice deploys him.
