Vegas Golden Knights Favourites to Win Stanley Cup
There are two things that can always be counted on when a playoff round ends and the next is about to commence. First, sports analysts, professional and casual alike, will dissect why the previous round concluded the way it did. Second, betters can immediately expect what the odds are for the next stage.
In the case of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final, the Vegas Golden Knights are currently pinned as -137 favourites to capture the franchise’s first championship. They last played in the final in 2018, the club’s first year in existence, but fell to the Washington Capitals. Incidentally, it was the latter’s first Stanley Cup win too. Since then they played the 2020 bubble Western Conference Final and the 2021 temporarily reconfigured semi-final. This year they eliminated the Winnipeg Jets in five games, the Edmonton Oilers in six games, and the Dallas Stars in six games. They had home ice advantage each time.
The Panthers, also hoping to hoist Lord Stanley’s trophy for the first time, are +100. While the numbers are close, Paul Maurice’s Floridian squad is once again an underdog. That shouldn’t bother them too much since each of the three previous rounds opened with few people expecting much of them. Florida eliminated the Boston Bruins in seven games, the Toronto Maple Leafs in five, and swept the Carolina Hurricanes.
Perhaps the biggest sign that oddsmakers have respect for the Panthers is on the series board. The result coming in with the second-lowest price is Florida winning 4-2 at +475. Vegas winning 4-3 is tops at +423. In third comes Vegas winning 4-2 at +502.
With players like Sergei Bobrovsky, Matthew Tkachuk, Carter Verhaeghe, Aleksander Barkov, Adin Hill, Jack Eichel, Jonathan Marchessault, and Mark Stone, it promises to be an exciting series.
